About us
Who we are
Baca supports young people who have been forced to flee their home country, because of war, persecution, or trafficking. We provide the support they need including a safe home, education and therapeutic care.
The young people we serve have lost the only life they know and have overcome all the odds to reach safety. Their courage is inspiring but without support they are at extreme risk of harm and exploitation. Baca is committed to providing an inspiring environment that raises hope and strengthens resilience – enabling them to fulfil their potential and become thriving members of the community.
We are a dynamic and growing organisation. Join us in our mission and be a vital part of ensuring child refugees have the support they need to feel safe to heal and free to thrive.
Our culture and values
We are committed to living out our values in our actions, which means we always treat everyone with respect; we live out unexaggerated truth. We passionately embrace risk for the sake of the mission, believing in multiple chances, taking responsibility and seeking the best for those we serve, whilst also applying wisdom to find our way through challenges.
Our young people often describe Baca as family. We are committed to creating an environment that inspires hope and raises aspirations; supporting them through challenging times and celebrating everyone for who they are. We work in the thin space between the formal world of statutory obligations and the informal world of being ‘a faithful parent’.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Baca is committed to eliminating unlawful discrimination and to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion within Baca, and to reflect this within the policies, practices and procedures set in place.
Young People
As a provider of publicly funded services, Baca will not discriminate against young people but treat all young people fairly and with equity. Baca will also take steps to promote equal opportunity in relation to access to the services that we provide, considering the diversity of the communities that we serve.
Employment
As an employer, Baca will not discriminate against employees and job applicants but treat everyone fairly and with equity. This applies equally to paid employees, voluntary positions and anyone undertaking work experience with us. This will, for example, include arrangements for recruitment and selection, terms and conditions of employment, access to training opportunities, grievance and disciplinary processes, selection for redundancies, dress code, references, work allocation and any other employment related activities.
Complaints
Baca will treat seriously all complaints of unlawful discrimination, victimisation, harassment or bullying on any of the forbidden grounds made by trustees, employees, young people, volunteers or other third parties and will act where appropriate. All complaints will be investigated in accordance with Baca’s grievance or complaints procedure and the complainant will be informed of the outcome. We will also monitor the number and outcome of complaints of discrimination made by trustees, staff, young people, volunteers, and other third parties.
