About us
Who we are
The ClementJames Centre is an award-winning charity operating in one of London’s most deprived areas. Together, we work towards creating a fairer society where everyone is equipped with suitable skills and gets the opportunity to achieve their ambitions. We do this through providing education, employment and wellbeing support to nearly 3,000 local people each year in a safe and compassionate space.
Employment Skills Programme
ClementJames helps people to gain meaningful and sustainable employment. This enables our clients to improve their quality of life, security and independence. We offer tailored advice and support, mentoring and work skills activities.
Children and Young People’s Education
ClementJames helps children and young people to learn, flourish and achieve their potential. This allows them to feel fulfilled and have the opportunities to build the future that they choose. We provide academic support, mentoring, intensive numeracy support, and Early Intervention for students at risk of exclusion.
Wellbeing and Support
ClementJames empowers people to overcome barriers and challenges and to engage with their own wellbeing. This enables our clients to pursue their goals. We do this through the provision of Information, Advice and Guidance, and wellbeing support and activities.
Our culture and values
Our values are: Enable, Quality, Understanding, Improvement, and Partnership.
Enable: we believe in helping people find the resources and achieve the independence they need for long-term solutions. Are you someone who strives to achieve the right outcome for each individual? You will be committed to building an inclusive culture in which everyone is valued for the unique people they are.
Quality: we are committed to providing the best environment for our staff to flourish so we can provide the best possible services to the community. Are you someone who is self-motivated, with a sense of ownership over tasks and duties? You will take pride in being efficient in all aspects of your work. You will also have the ability to plan and prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment.
Understanding: we value the experience of every person in our community; our work is based on our understanding of the community’s priorities. Are you someone who is kind and supportive of others? We need team members who deliver a professional service while maintaining compassion for clients and colleagues alike.
Improvement: we analyse what works and we learn from mistakes. You will have a growth mindset, embracing challenges and reflecting on how to develop and improve. You also have a positive attitude and the ability to work flexibly.
Partnership: we work collaboratively with individuals and organisations to achieve shared goals. Are you someone who enjoys working as part of a team? You will be supportive of your team members and beyond as we work together to equip the community for success.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
ClementJames is committed to treating all staff, volunteers, clients, supporters and the wider community fairly,
regardless of ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religious belief, background, location, age, ability or other factors which sometimes give rise to discrimination. Some groups and communities face inequalities and injustices in the way opportunities and resources are shared in society. If we address these barriers and include people with a diverse range of lived and learned experiences, we know our work will be richer and make more of a difference.
In order to achieve our intentions, it is crucial that we have tangible commitments: recruitment and retention; valuing difference; ways of working; policies and procedures; input into decision-making; and trustees. We know that it is everybody in the organisation's responsibility to uphold these commitments and make the ClementJames Centre a diverse, equal, and inclusive space.
