About us
Who we are
The Living Room is a Hertfordshire-based charity offering free, life-changing support for people affected by addiction to drugs, alcohol, or harmful behaviours such as gambling and disordered eating. We help individuals and their families achieve lasting recovery through structured, peer-supported group therapy and counselling.
Our welcoming centres in Stevenage, St Albans, and Watford provide safe spaces where people can share experiences, rebuild relationships, and regain control of their lives. We believe recovery transforms not only individuals but families and communities, creating hope and stronger, healthier futures for everyone.
Our culture and values
At The Living Room, we believe that recovery is a shared journey — for our clients, our teams, and our community. Our culture is one of compassion, collaboration, and integrity. We create a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to learn, grow, and make a genuine difference.
Our values guide how we work together every day:
-
Caring – We listen with empathy and treat everyone with kindness and respect.
-
People First – We focus on what matters most to those we support and to each other.
-
Community – We build strong connections that foster belonging and wellbeing.
-
Competence – We take pride in doing our work to the highest professional standards.
-
Integrity – We are open, honest, and ethical in all that we do.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We believe everyone deserves to work and recover in an environment that is fair, inclusive, and empowering. We are proud to be a Mindful Employer (2016–2026) and Disability Confident Committed (2019–2025) organisation, ensuring our recruitment, workplace culture, and development opportunities are open and accessible to all.
We actively promote equality and celebrate diversity across our workforce — valuing lived experience, cultural awareness, and individual differences as strengths that enrich our team. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or victimisation in any form, and we ensure that every colleague is treated with dignity and respect.
Our Diversity, Equality, Equity and Inclusion (DEEI) Working Group helps shape our approach to fairness, accessibility, and representation. Through continuous training, open dialogue, and reflective practice, we work together to build a culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and able to thrive.
