About us

Who we are

The Loss Foundation is the only charity in the UK specialising in cancer bereavement support. Our team is made up of compassionate, innovative, and charismatic individuals, who are passionate about providing grief support services in our country. We provide support groups and other events around the country, as well as carrying out research and training.

Our culture and values

At The Loss Foundation, we exist to ensure that no one has to navigate grief alone. We are driven by compassion and a deep respect for the people who come to us, often at their most vulnerable moments. Every conversation, event and interaction is grounded in humanity and care.

We work with integrity and honesty, both internally and with our community. We do what we say we will do, we take responsibility when things are difficult, and we always keep the people we serve at the centre of our decisions.

We are progressive in how we deliver support. Our services are grounded in psychological knowledge, best practice, and continual improvement. We embrace new ideas, evidence-based approaches and ways to reach more people safely and effectively.

We are bold and ambitious because the needs of people bereaved by cancer are often unseen and underserved. We advocate, we try new approaches, and we challenge what “business as usual” looks like in bereavement services.

Above all, we are personable. We meet people as people - volunteers, staff, attendees - and we treat every interaction with dignity, warmth and respect. Our organisation is built on empathy and authentic human connection.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

The Loss Foundation is committed to creating an environment where everyone is welcomed, respected and able to contribute meaningfully. Grief does not discriminate, and neither do we.

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, identities, abilities and life experiences. Our support services are open to anyone bereaved by cancer, and we want our team and volunteers to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

We actively oppose discrimination in all its forms, including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, and religious discrimination, and we take incidents seriously. We work to remove barriers, challenge bias and ensure fairness in recruitment, pay, training, and access to services.

We value lived experience. We recognise that people bring their full selves to this work - their cultural backgrounds, their personal histories, their neurodiversity, their grief - and we see these perspectives as strengths.

We are still learning and we are committed to improving. We welcome feedback, we adapt when needed, and we aim to build a compassionate culture where every person feels safe, included and empowered.
