Who we are
The SLA helps schools to develop vibrant reading and learning communities. We support all those working to deliver effective library provision encompassing primary and secondary schools, and sixth form colleges across the UK. Our members support approximately one million children every day helping them achieve their fill potential.
We work with a wide variety of partners to ensure reading and learning opportunities through the school library stay top of the agenda, advocating for school libraries and the benefits they bring at local, regional and national levels. Founded in 1937 by a group of Headteachers, the SLA has a rich history of supporting and celebrating school libraries. We are the first port of call for anyone seeking to support reading and learning through their school library, meeting schools where they are and whatever form their library may take. Our team is passionate, determind and brings a multitude of expertise from across the education and publishing sectors.
