About us

Who we are

The School Library  Association (SLA) is a national education charity and membership organisation that supports all schools to develop and deliver effective school library provision, and to build inclusive and engaging reading and learning communities, helping to ensure all pupils reach their full potentialOur members support approximately one million children every day in schools across the UK

We work with a wide variety of partners to ensure reading and learning opportunities through the school library stay on top of the agenda, advocating for school libraries and the benefits they bring at local, regional and national levels.

Founded in 1937 by a group of Headteachers, the SLA has a rich history of supporting and celebrating school libraries. We are the first port of call for anyone seeking to support reading and learning through their school library, meeting schools where they are and whatever form their library may take. Our team is passionate, determined and brings a multitude of expertise from across the library, education and publishing sectors.
