About us
Who we are
Tia Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue was founded in 1996 and is based on a 90-acre farm in the Highlands near Nairn.
At our Highland site, we provide on-site sanctuary care for a small number of resident animals, including greyhounds, lurchers, heavy horses, ponies, and miniature donkeys. Daily care and welfare are delivered by a small team of staff and volunteers, supported by external veterinary professionals when required.
Alongside the work at our Highland base, the charity’s wider focus is the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of ex-racing greyhounds. This is delivered through a foster-led approach, with dogs moving directly from UK training kennels into foster homes where they begin their transition into family life, supported throughout by our foster network and team.
Greyhound racing continues today, and the need for rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care remains as important now as it was when the charity was founded in 1996.
Our culture and values
Work at Tia Rescue is hands-on, physical, and is based both indoors and out, following structured daily routines centred on animal care.
Day-to-day responsibility is largely independent, with clear direction provided on priorities and standards, and staff expected to manage tasks without close supervision.
Work involves routine animal care in a quiet, rural setting, where handling must be steady, patient, and appropriate to each animal’s needs. Initiative and reliability are important, as work is practical and often self-directed.
This environment suits experienced animal handlers who are physically capable, comfortable with outdoor yard work, and able to work in a steady, consistent way across the day.
