Who we are
The Valuation Tribunal Service (VTS) is a Non-Departmental Public Body established by statute. It deals mainly with appeals against Council Tax and non-Domestic rates (i.e. business rates) and is sponsored by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. It provides an independent tribunal service to appellants. The VTS works with its sister organisation the Valuation Tribunal for England (VTE) who provide volunteers (who we call "Members") as part of the hearing panel that make the decisions. The volunteers/VTE Members are advised by staff employed by the VTS who have expertise in local taxation law and procedure. Together, the VTS and VTE make up what is known as the Valuation Tribunal.
