Who we are
The iconic Windmill has stood in the centre of Wimbledon Common since 1817. It now houses the only museum in the UK dedicated to the history of milling and wind power. The building itself is recognised as a community hub, hosting a variety events throughout the year. The museum is open to the public on summer weekends with free entrance and also offers an acclaimed programme of educational tours as required at a small charge.
The museum is run completely by a board of trustees and a team of enthusiastic volunteers. The operating costs need to be covered by donations and gift shop sales.
Our culture and values
Our mission is to educate and entertain people of all ages and backgrounds focusing on milling heritage. We also act as a unifying local community hub.
We are totally volunteer-run where everyone is valued for their contribution.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Although we have no paid employees, the trustees ensure that everyone is equally valued. Our volunteers, who range in age from 18 to 80-plus, come from a variety of ethnic and social backgrounds which are also reflected in our visitor profiles.
