About us

Who we are

Wythenshawe Foodbank is an independent local charity and part of the Trussell network. We provide emergency food and practical support to people across Wythenshawe who are facing financial hardship or crisis.

Working through a central hub and community distribution centres, our staff and volunteers make sure people can access help locally and are welcomed with compassion, dignity and without judgement.

Our work goes beyond providing food. We collaborate with referral agencies, community organisations, schools, businesses and local supporters to help people access wider support and begin addressing the circumstances that brought them to the foodbank.

Our mission is to ensure nobody in Wythenshawe has to face hunger alone, while contributing to the longer-term effort to reduce the need for emergency food support.

Our culture and values

We are a community-led organisation built around compassion, dignity and practical action. Our team includes staff, trustees and dedicated volunteers who bring different experiences but share the same commitment to supporting local people.

We aim to create a friendly, supportive and down-to-earth working environment. We value people who communicate openly, take responsibility and are willing to get involved when something needs doing.

Our core values are:

• Compassion – treating everyone with kindness and understanding
• Dignity – providing support respectfully and without judgement
• Community – working alongside local people and organisations
• Collaboration – recognising that we achieve more by working together
• Integrity – being honest, responsible and accountable
• Improvement – learning, adapting and finding better ways to serve our community

Foodbank work can be busy and unpredictable, so teamwork, flexibility and a sense of humour are all genuinely valued.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Wythenshawe Foodbank is committed to creating an inclusive organisation where everyone is treated fairly, respectfully and with dignity.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Recruitment and employment decisions are based on the skills, experience and suitability needed for each role. We aim to remove unnecessary barriers from our recruitment process and will make reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants and employees wherever possible.

We do not tolerate discrimination, bullying, harassment or victimisation within our organisation. Staff, trustees and volunteers share responsibility for creating a welcoming environment and treating colleagues, applicants, partners and the people using our services with respect.

We recognise that equality, diversity and inclusion require ongoing attention. We will continue to review our practices, listen to feedback and work to ensure our organisation reflects and understands the community it serves.
