At Auditory Verbal UK we firmly believe that all deaf children should have the same opportunities in life as their hearing peers.
But far too many deaf children face the prospect of lower academic achievement, lower employment, and are at higher risk of poor mental health, bullying and social exclusion. This doesn’t have to be the case. When families have access to early and effective support, opportunities in life are transformed. Early support is vital whether families wish to use spoken language, sign language or both. Auditory Verbal therapy is an approach which is supporting deaf children to reach language and educational outcomes on a par with hearing children but less than 10% of families in the UK can access it. .
AVUK has an ambitious 10-year-strategy to ensure all families who want their children to learn to listen and talk are able to access a programme of this kind wherever they live in the UK.
