Barts Charity is an endowed charity which aims to improve and innovate in healthcare. We fund ground-breaking medical research, state-of-the-art hospital equipment and innovative healthcare projects which the NHS could not otherwise afford.
We provide awards totalling £30m each year, making us a nationally significant healthcare funder. Our funding supports the patients of Barts Health NHS Trust (comprising St Bartholomew’s, The Royal London, Mile End, Whipps Cross, Newham and the Nightingale London Hospitals) with funds providing life-saving patient care and well-being support for staff.
We also fund medical research undertaken at the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, part of Queen Mary University London, supporting medical breakthroughs in a wide range of areas including cardiology, trauma, HIV and COVID-19.
Whilst we primarily serve a population of 2.5m people in NE London, the benefits of the work that we fund often has a national and international reach.
