Bikeworks is a not for profit social enterprise based in the olympic velodrome in East London. Our mission is to change lives using the power of the bicycle. Our three core objectives are: to build a more diverse cycling community; improve mechanical skills; and support businesses to be greener through the promotion of cycling.
To deliver this our mission we run a variety of community cycling programmes including an employment programme for disadvantaged groups, an inclusive cycling programme called All Ability, cycle training for the whole community, a corporate teambuilding programme and mobile bicycle maintenance or ‘Dr Bikes’ delivered in both community locations and directly to businesses.
Bikeworks was registered as a company in September 2006, began trading in 2007 and opened its first premises in Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets in the spring of 2008.
In its short history Bikeworks has already achieved a significant amount making a positive difference to the lives of many thousands of people, winning numerous awards and expanding the reach of its work across the capital including the opening of further training centres.
2018 is an exciting time for Bikeworks with a move into the velodrome for the office and training centre, a social franchise maintenance shop, and the establishment of an All Ability Cycling Centre of Excellence. This is a great time to get inolved and bring your energy, ideas and experience to us to help us have a positive impact on even more people's lives.
