Who we are

At Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, we care for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions. We are currently supporting around 300 families, both in our hospice and in family homes.

Our support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family; including short stays, care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups, home visits and much, much more. 

It costs £5.1m to keep our doors open for families across South Yorkshire and beyond. We receive around 15% of our funding from government sources.

Our culture and values

The dream of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice began in 1998, with the vision to help families in this area who wanted an alternative to hospital care. Fundraising started when 11-year-old Richard and his mum wanted him to die at home.

In 2004, your support made our dream come true and we began to build the hospice. On 19th September 2008, we opened the doors to the first families who needed us.

Since then, you’ve helped us support hundreds of children from across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.

We’ve helped tired mums and dads get some much needed me-time; looked after brothers and sisters who are feeling angry, lonely or confused; and been there for families during the last moments of their child’s life.

Without you, our support over the years just wouldn’t have been possible: your donations have paid for every day trip, and funded every session of sensory play.
