Who we are:
At Brathay, we know everyone has the capacity to do extraordinary things. We are a long-established charity based in the Lake District, working to deliver life-changing community programmes to thousands of young people and their families in real need.
The programmes we deliver are funded through the income generated by our non-profit social enterprises. We offer expert people development and purposeful leadership coaching which are valued by many leading public and private sector organisations for our progressive, innovative and adaptable approach to developing talent, teams and leaders. We also run high-quality outdoor residentials for schools, and we generate additional income from the Windermere Marathon, other challenge events, and holiday accommodation.
Brathay is established as a Charity and as a Company Limited by Guarantee. Today we employ around 110 staff and 40 associates. We operate from three locations - the main site, just outside Ambleside, together with two important and growing community centres in Bradford and Barrow.
Our One Brathay Vision:
ONE MISSION – to support children, young people and families facing adversity and inequality by inspiring behaviours, attitudes and skills needed to make positive choices; engage in communities, and work towards a lifetime of wellbeing.
ONE PURPOSE – to work together as ONE BRATHAY delivering our community-based charity work alongside our not-for-profit social enterprises – sharing our people development skills and picturesque location for the good of others and the wider community whilst generating surplus income to support our work with vulnerable young people.
ONE PASSION – to use our unique experiential learning in a way that enriches all our lives through a growing awareness of self and others, and a closer connection to community and nature.
