About us

Who we are

The Engineering Development Trust (EDT) is a UK-wide, educational charity established 30+ years ago.Our mission is to connect young people with industry and inspire STEM futures. Our core values are Trust, Respect, Integrity, Purpose and Learning.

Young people are at the heart of what we do. Through providing industry-informed, curriculum-enhancing learning experiences, we help them develop personal and interpersonal skills, fulfil their potential and make informed decisions about their future. We recognise their achievement through Industrial Cadets accreditation and awards, an industry-led quality benchmark.

We work with over 3,700 industry partners, over 1,300 schools and educational institutions to deliver more than 40,000 STEM experiences each year. In 2021, we reached the 100,000 Industrial Cadets milestone.

Our culture and values

EDT's core values are:

To be passionate: We believe in our cause, our mission and vision, to continuously improve our impact, and make a difference for the young people we support.

To be dynamic: We work together with purpose, driving innovation to ensure we meet young peoples' needs both now and for the future.

To be collaborative: We bring together our skills and strengths to drive a strong team that people want to be part of, including our young people, partners & funders.

To show respect: We are a caring and positive team with a focus on well-being, and create an inclusive working and learning environment.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

EDT is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce, Trustees, and the programmes that we run. We will eliminate unlawful discrimination and always promote inclusive environments and decision-making.

The aim is for our workforce, governing structures and the programmes that we run, to be truly representative of all sections of society, and for each EDT Employee, Volunteer and Participant to feel respected and able to give their best.
