About us

Who we are

EngineeringUK is a not-for-profit organisation, which works in partnership with the engineering community to inspire tomorrow's engineers. We work with a wide range of partners to deliver engaging careers activity that challenges outdated perceptions of the industry and showcases the real jobs and careers available to people with the right qualifications. We underpin this activity with incisive research that paints a clear picture of the state of UK engineering and the impact of inspiring outreach activity. Our ambition is to reach 1m young people a year with inspiring engineering engagements.

Volunteer at The Big Bang Fair 2018 at The NEC, Birmingham

The Big Bang Fair is an award-winning combination of exciting theatre shows, interactive workshops and exhibits and careers information from STEM professionals. Next year's Fair will be held at The NEC, Birmingham 14-17 March 2018.

We aim to show young people (primarily aged 7-19) the exciting and rewarding opportunities out there for them with the right experience and qualifications, by bringing classroom learning to life.

Why do we need volunteers?

The Big Bang Fair needs you to share your time and energy to help ensure our Have-A-Go, Careers and Events activities run smoothly offering our young visitors an inspiring and unique experience at the Fair.

Having grown from 6,500 visitors in its first year (2009) to over 70,000 in 2017, we simply couldn't do it without the support of our amazing volunteers. We need over 400 volunteers for next year's Fair. Next year's Fair will be held at The NEC, Birmingham 14-17 March 2018.

Why do we need Volunteer Team Leaders?

New for 2018, we need Volunteer Team Leaders to support and guide our teams of volunteers. Team Leaders play a crucial role in helping us deliver a smooth and unique experience for both visitors and other volunteers.

What are the roles you can apply for?

Our volunteers play a vital role in making The Big Bang Fair a massive success. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, reliable and enjoy working with young people.

  • Activities Volunteer to help facilitate our hands-on “Have-A-Go” activities to our visitors in an engaging and inspirational manner.
  • Events Volunteer to ensure our events team is offering useful guidance to our visitors and welcome them to the event.
