About us
Who we are
Haemochromatosis UK is the UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting people affected by haemochromatosis, a genetic condition that leads to toxic iron overload. We work to raise public awareness, stimulate research, and educate healthcare professionals.
There are over 380,000 people affected by genetic haemochromatosis in the UK. Yet just 14,000 people have been diagnosed and are receiving NHS care. Undiagnosed, haemochromatosis can cause a wide range of health issues including liver disease, heart disease, cancer, mental health issues, acute joint pain and diabetes.
