About us

Who we are

Herring House Trust is a registered charitable Housing Association working for single homeless people in the Borough of Great Yarmouth.

We believe everyone should have a safe and secure place to live and call home, where they can begin to achieve their ambitions. Our mission is to help that happen for all the people we support.

To do this, we: -

  • Provide support to each person as an individual. Each person is different and needs help in differing ways.
  • Build positive and encouraging relationships that both supports and challenges service users to meet their own needs and personal goals;
  • Provide a client led, resettlement pathway out of homelessness, that combines the experience of the Trust with the needs of the client;
  • Build relationships with our community, with the aim of increasing understanding of homelessness and the issues people face.

We have a strength-based approach to our work – each person we support comes to us with their own skills and strengths. By us helping them to see those strengths, people become empowered to start their journey out of homelessness. From first contact with our service, we believe that a person can move on from their current situation to live a more stable life – we hold that value at the heart of our work.

Our culture and values

Empowering

Each person we support has strengths and skills; when life becomes difficult, it can be easy to lose sight of those strengths. Through support, understanding and reassurance, we try to help each person recognise their strengths, which they can then draw upon in the journey out of homelessness.

Accountable

We are an organisation that delivers on what we say we will do. We let our clients know what is happening at each stage of their journey and we make sure that we communicate openly, expressing our expectations and understanding the expectations of our clients.

We listen to feedback and we will adapt and make changes to our ways of working to ensure our service is the best that we can offer.

Dedicated

We have high standards and are dedicated to working to achieve the best we can for our client group. Sometimes that involves challenging others to do the same. What we know is that each person needs support that is specific to them. We do not operate a blanket approach for everyone. We are dedicated to finding solutions, for some people moving out of homelessness is simpler, for others it can be an extremely difficult journey. We need to be walking alongside people at each step of their journey.

Inclusive

We are built on the experience and expertise of the people who work for us and who live in our accommodation and receive our support. Listening to their voices, shapes our work. Each person has a valuable contribution to make and we encourage them to be part of our present and future.

Responsive

We value being a service that listens to clients, our staff, our partners and our community. We value being a service that is flexible and strives to meet the needs of the homeless people we support. Being responsive and innovative is needed to help people move on – we are practical and get the job done.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Herring House Trust staff are dedicated to supporting the homeless people who ask for our help. They are creative in finding ways to best work with people who are often living with many complex issues. They have integrity and professionalism and the high standard of our work is because of them.

We value people with life experience who are compassionate and understanding. We are committed to equality and inclusion and welcome people to join our team from all walks of life.

We need positive people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get on with the job. People who are professional and feel strongly about improving the lives of homeless people.
