Who we are
Home-Start Portsmouth is an independent family support charity that was established in 1992 and has supported thousands of families in the city since its launch. We exist to enable local parents to be the best they can for their children by offering emotional and practical help through trained volunteers, both in family homes and out in the community.
Support is available for families that are experiencing a whole range of difficulties: bereavement, isolation, multiple births, depression to name a few. We run a School Readiness programme and a Parental Skills development programme, as well as Stay & Play groups across the city. We have adapted our delivery of services to meet the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our Volunteers, who are often parents themselves, are trained and supported by experienced co-ordinators who are there to guide, mentor and advise them throughout.
