About us
Who we are
ABOUT US Inter Mediate (IM) is a London-based chaity specialising in negotiation and mediation. Established by Jonathan Powell, Tony Blair’s former chief of staff and the chief British negotiator on Northern Ireland from 1997-2007, and Martin Griffiths, founder and former director of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva, IM focuses on the most difficult, complex and dangerous conflicts where other organisations are unable to operate. It brings together some of the world’s leading experts on dialogue and negotiation of entrenched conflicts, who operate as a small and flexible team that fill a vital gap in the conflict resolution landscape.
OBJECTIVES Inter Mediate’s aim is to ensure that meaningful dialogue is initiated wherever the appropriate fora for dialogue are non-existent or ineffective, to help parties in conflict resolve their differences and reach a lasting settlement. By doing so, it aims not simply to end the suffering directly caused by conflict, but also to address the problems of poverty, disease and economic stagnation that are the inevitable by-products of violence and political unrest.
