About us

Who we are

Established in 1813, Nantgarw China Works is celebrated as the birthplace of ‘the world’s finest porcelain’.  It is a unique surviving example of an early British porcelain factory.  The remains of the historic works are the best preserved in Wales and the remaining kilns and outbuildings are protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.  Nantgarw house, a Grade II Listed Building, functions as the site’s Museum and was home (two centuries ago) to some of the most remarkable and influential porcelain painters and manufacturers in the world.

Today, the China Works is an independent museum, as well as a working pottery and an educational institution offering some 500 workshop sessions every year.

Nantgarw China Works & Museum continues to uphold the highest standards of quality and excellence, ensuring that our heritage remains vibrant and accessible for generations to come.
