About us

Who we are

NYAS offers a range of additional support services as part of our mission to support, safeguard and empower children, young people and adults in vulnerable situations. This includes our mental health advocacy support, and our NYAS Legal Services.

At NYAS, we listen to what children and young people want. We care about what they say, and we empower them to have their voices heard, especially when other people are making decisions about their future.

As part of our mission, we ensure that the wishes and feelings of care-experienced young people are expressed and acted upon. The aim of this is to improve their situation, and to help them build a better future.

NYAS will never stop in our efforts to influence, lobby and campaign for positive change. Through all that we do, we want to ensure that the rights of every child, young person and adult are understood and upheld.

Our culture and values

We have four very clear values at NYAS which permeate every part of our work. When combined, our values make up the acronym CARE, reminding our team to care about one another, and that we fight to improve the experience of care-experienced children across England and Wales.

  1. Collaborative: We work closely with colleagues and partners across relevant sectors to deliver an outstanding service to children, young people and adults who need our support.
  2. Accountable: We are open, transparent and accountable. Here at NYAS, we take responsibility for what we do.
  3. Respectful: We value and respect each other and the people we work with by embracing diversity and nurturing trust.
  4. Empowering: We listen to children and young people when they are not being heard. To help, we inform them of their rights and empower them to change their lives for the better.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

NYAS believes in equality, diversity and inclusion. We will develop and sustain an inclusive and positive
culture so that fairness is at the centre of everything we do.

NYAS has established a policy committee to lead on assessing the likely effect of our policies on
employees, identifying any aspect of our policies which discriminate against or disadvantage particular
groups and recommend how the policies need to change to ensure they do not discriminate against
anyone. Any policies that require amending to improve our Equality Diversity and Inclusion culture will be
achieved by the policy committee.

We will aim to ensure that there will be no unlawful or unfair discrimination, harassment, bullying or
treatment in particular, but not exclusively, on the grounds of all the Equality Act 2010 protected
characteristics

NYAS aims to ensure that there is equal and fair treatment for all NYAS employees, self-employed
contractors and volunteers. Selection for employment, promotion, training and any other benefits will be
made on the basis of skills and abilities, this will apply to students on work placement with NYAS as well.
Employees will be supported and encouraged to develop their full potential. The talents and resources of
the workforce will be fully utilised to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of NYAS.
