About us

Who we are

Ol Pejeta Conservancy UK was established in 2019 to support wildlife conservation and community development activities on and around the Conservancy in Kenya.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Laikipia, Kenya, was established in 2004, transforming a 30,000-hectare cattle ranch into a flagship wildlife conservancy. It lies within one of Kenya’s most important wildlife regions – the Ewaso-Samburu ecosystem. The area sustains globally significant biodiversity including over 95 mammal, 540 bird, 700 plant and 1,000 invertebrate species. Ol Pejeta is home to the largest population of Critically Endangered eastern black rhino in the world. The Key 1 population of 169 individuals accounts for 17% of the global total. Ol Pejeta also has over 40 Near Threatened southern white rhino, and the world’s last two remaining northern white rhinos. These last two females, Najin and Fatu, are the focus of an ambitious project aiming to bring the species back from extinction.  Ol Pejeta has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya, yet still manages a very successful integrated wildlife and livestock business. We work closely with the people and communities living around our borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates into better education, livelihoods, and wellbeing..

Ol Pejeta’s mission is to work with partners and stakeholders to conserve biodiversity and support economic and social development through innovative nature-based solutions that benefit people, wildlife, and the climate.
