About us

Who we are

Quilombo UK's objective is to change behaviour for the benefit of the individual and of society as a whole. We firmly believe that this is possible. By bringing the majority together with minority we can teach about acceptance and adaptation, fostering strong relationships and building an integrated, positive and healthy community.

Since 2009, we have been running different projects in Kingston-upon-Thames to promote these objectives, increasing community cohesion, and we believe helping to create a more just and fair society with a deeper intercultural understanding of its diversity.

We are now running a national volunteering scheme offering home-based work to those who want to get involved in helping their community and gain valuable work experience, to volunteers across the country.

Quilombo UK is a member of Home Office's programme BSBT (Building a Stronger Britain Together) as well as local partner of Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames and an active Social Enterprise with National links.

We partner with with cultural, social and sports organisations, and put on programmes of training, workshops and other events that promote unity and tolerance. We conduct research to challenge preconceptions around race and stereotyping/bias. Our findings are supported by educational opportunities designed to broaden perspectives. Encouraging different cultures to come together enables us to share and celebrate important lessons. The name Quilombo represents our charity because it reflects our mission to create a community of shared values and mutual respect.

  • A diversity game - this raises awareness of our biases, challenging us to think differently and can be delivered as a simple event activity or part of our Unconscious Bias Workshop.
  • Treasure Hunt - this provides the opportunity to exchange the culture treasures while educating about diversity, traditions and beliefs. This is a service offered to schools, local governments and organisations.
  • Community Campaigns - a social experiment and short documentaries raising awareness of the discrimination people can encounter because of particular characteristics such as religion, ethnicity or gender.
  • Training and Workshops - our workshops create a safe environment for participants to debate the concept of bias and discuss how much it influences people without them even realising.
