About us

Who we are

The River Thames Boat Project is a registered charity that owns Thames Venturer, a specially converted Dutch barge which is fully accessible to people with disabilities and equipped with a variety of educational resources about the Thames. Our mission is to give people opportunities of experiencing river and waterways environments to the benefit of their personal, social and educational development. We focus especially on children, young people, older people and those with disabilities from London and the South East. These aims are achieved by offering groups from care homes, community organisations, support groups and schools a choice of day or residential cruises, and environmental education or learning activities on the river Thames. River Thames Boat Project, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2013, is we believe the only organisation of its kind operating on the Thames between Windsor and Putney. We have a small staff team of 4, assisted by over 70 volunteers, who bring a wealth of skills and experience and without whom we could not operate. Last year we ran 145 cruises, education days and events and welcomed over 3,000 visitors on board. So that we can continue to provide our service at heavily subsidised rates, income is raised through grants, donations and events.
