The Road Victims Trust is a registered charity offering a range of free support services to residents of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire who have been affected by fatal road collisions.
Each year about one thousand seven hundred and fifty people die as a result of road collisions on the UK’s roads. This represents an enormous loss. Each person killed or injured will be someone’s parent, partner, child, a favourite relative or best friend .
The need to provide effective, personal support to those affected by death or life changing injuries resulting from road collisions is a significant issue. Who can provide that essential personal support? There are formal legal processes that follow a serious road collision that involve the Police, Coroner, Crown Prosecution Service and personal injury lawyers. However, the work to complete these legal processes does not include the provision of specialist emotional and practical support that is so often needed by victims following the collision. Victims include bereaved individuals and families, those that were involved in the collision or who witnessed it.
The Road Victims Trust seeks to fill the gap by providing support for the bereaved and people otherwise affected by road death or life changing injuries, who are resident in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.
What We Do.....
In 2012 a total of 79 people died on the roads across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire and many more were seriously injured.
What began as an ordinary day for 13 families in Bedfordshire, 31 families in Cambridgeshire and 35 families in Hertfordshire, setting off for work, shopping, school or other activities, ended in their worst nightmare: a knock on the door from a police officer with the unenviable task of telling them that one of their loved ones was dead.
The RVT works in partnership with the police and HM Coroners, taking over from them the support of the bereaved and anyone else who is affected by the road death. We know that you may be at the start of a very difficult journey, a journey with no map. We are familiar with the shock, the disbelief, the pain, the anger, the horror, the loneliness and the devastation you are suffering. We can support and guide you through your grief, and enable you to make the practical decisions facing you in the coming weeks and months.
