Who we are
Sporting Penistone is a CIO, whose objects are “To work together with local people and organisations, without discrimination, to run Penistone Leisure Centre (PLC). To provide facilities for education and recreation, and improve the wellbeing of local people.” We have a gym, roller skating, classes, sports, rooms for hire and a café. There are 6 staff with regular, part time hours, 6 teenagers who help at parties, and 30-40 volunteers who do a wide variety of jobs from covering reception or skating sessions, doing gym inductions, admin, maintenance, gardening or running sessions. There are also over 30 coaches and regular hirers of our facility, as well as about 3000 unique centre users per year (600 per week). We have an annual turnover of around £200,000 which is mainly income from centre activities and grants for new projects or capital works. We also gain a smaller amount of money from fundraising events and donations.
