Could you join the Stonewall Housing team? We're on the lookout for brilliant, dynamic individuals who will help us ensure more LGBTQ+ people in the UK live in safe homes.
Stonewall Housing helps LGBTQ+ people in the UK who are experiencing homelessness or living in an unsafe environment. We provide safe accommodation, housing advice, mental health advocacy and support for people fleeing or who have fled domestic abuse. All of our services are free and confidential. Founded in 1983, we're the only charity in the UK working with homeless LGBTQ+ people of all ages.
We're both a Community Benefit Society and Charitable Foundation. Our company number is IP24277R and our charity number is 1187437.
We support approximately 2000 LGBTQ+ people a year into safer homes. Over the past three months our youngest service user was 16 and the eldest 79. Most often these are people who have experienced discrimination or abuse because of their sexuality or gender identity, like Jay*, 19. In February, Jay was made homeless after being outed as bisexual to his family. He was given 12 hours to pack up his things and go. He turned to his boyfriend for support but the relationship turned violent. Jay fled and slept in his car for two weeks before finding out about Stonewall Housing. After calling our Advice and Advocacy team, Jay could get help with applying for housing and navigating his Local Authority. He also received specialist Domestic Abuse support. Jay shared, “it was the first time that I felt someone understood. That I wasn’t alone. I carried a lot of shame before I spoke to my [Stonewall Housing] caseworker”.
Estimates illustrate over 70,000 people need Stonewall Housing’s help. We're on a mission to raise our profile across the UK, grow our team, and reach more people sleeping rough or living in unsafe or volatile environments. Could you join us?
