About us
Who we are
The Froebel Trust's vision is for a world in which childhood is valued in its own right and each child's capacity and potential is recognised. It is one in which all young children have access to a high quality education based on Froebelian principles. Consequently, our mission is to promote the value and relevance of Froebelian principles to the education and learning of children in the 21st century.
Established in its present form in 2012, The Froebel Trust traces its history as a charity back to 1892, through its predecessor, the incorporated Froebel Educational Institute (IFEI). Each has served to promote the philosophy of Friedrich Froebel, the great German educator, who devised a set of principles and practices designed to form an interactive educational process to take place in institutions, which he named 'kindergarten'.
We fulfil our mission by awarding grants for educational programmes and original research, and by organising functions that will help to develop knowledge and understanding of Froebelian philosophy and its application in contemporary Early Years practice.
Our core work is carried out by a small staff team at our offices in Roehampton (London SW15) and is governed and supported by our dedicated volunteers: Trustees, Committee members and Associates.
