About us

Who we are

The Woodworks Project runs Furniture and Upholstery workshop projects from our professionally equipped workshops. The projects are designed to help those who have faced difficulties through their mental or physical health or history of addiction, to move forward in their lives in a friendly, relaxed and supportive environment.

We aim to create as realistic a work experience as possible for our clients, doing genuinely meaningful and engaging work in structured full-day sessions.

The people who come to our projects, work on making, renovating and upholstering furniture which will then be sold in our shop. Along the way they will learn all the woodworking and upholstery skills needed to produce work to a high standard from our experienced and expert tutors. Our workshops are completely unpressurised, there are no timescales or deadlines to work to and everyone is free to work and learn at a pace that is suitable to them individually.

The Woodworks Project was established in August 2014 to continue the successful furniture workshop project which previously ran for ten years under the umbrella of another well-known Bath charity. During that time, the project helped over 200 of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the community to move forward with their lives, and since opening our doors again to client as The Woodworks Project in September 2015, we have received over 150 referrals and become a highly respected organisation within the local health and social care network. We believe we have now established ourselves as the first name on peoples' lips when they think of this kind of meaningful, challenging yet satisfying therapeutic activity.
