About us

Who we are

Young Lives Consortium (YLC) is a membership organisation of Voluntary Community Social Enterprise (VCSE) groups working with children, young people aged 0-25 years, and families across the Wakefield District. "Together we achieve more, progress faster, and deliver better services."

We work alongside a broad range of organisations which include charities, voluntary and community groups, uniform and faith groups providing play, youth services, sports services, and more.

We support our members to assist children and young people in the Wakefield District to develop key skills and competences, to be resilient and meet their full potential.

Our culture and values

Our Guiding Principles

Empowerment: Create an environment where VCSE organisations, children and young people’s opinions, ideas and perspectives are listened to and valued, involving them in decision making process and actively seeking their involvement to ensure that our activities truly meet their needs and inspirations.

Inclusivity: Create an inclusive environment where all VCSE groups, children and young people feel welcome and valued. Embrace diversity in all its forms, including ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, abilities, and backgrounds. Ensure that no one is left behind and that all individuals have equal opportunities to participate and benefit from the organisation's activities.

Children and Youth-led Approach: Promote a children and youth-led approach by encouraging young people to take on leadership roles within the    organisation. Provide opportunities to develop skills, take ownership of projects, and make meaningful contributions.

Holistic Development: Prioritise the holistic development of children and young people by offering a range of programs and services that address physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Provide support in areas such as education, health, recreation, life skills, social and personal development.

Community Engagement: Engage the broader community in supporting the organisation's work. Build strong partnerships with local businesses, schools, government agencies, and other community organisations to create a network of safe spaces and support for children and young people.

Accountability and Transparency: Maintain high standards of accountability and transparency in all organisational activities. Ensure that resources are used effectively and ethically and provide regular updates to stakeholders on the organisation's progress, impact, and financial management.

Continuous Learning and Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the organisation. Regularly evaluate programmes and initiatives, seek feedback from participants and stakeholders, and use the insights gained to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the organisation's work.
