Who we are

Developed in response to the ongoing challenges facing the Children and Young People’s sector, Young People’s Foundations bring together the public, private and voluntary sectors to implement positive change for young people. Based in their local communities, each YPF’s services are led by their members and based on the needs and assets of their area. Together they share a common goal – to help create and champion a more impactful, co-ordinated and sustainable sector to ensure all young people have access to quality support and opportunities.

They are independent registered charities, membership organisations for everyone at the local level that works with children and young people aged 0-25. This includes businesses, voluntary groups and the public sector all working together to find solutions for children and young people; any local organisation from the local mosque to the fire brigade. The Young People Foundation (YPF) family has grown considerably since the first three YPFs (Brent, Barnet and Harrow) were established in 2015. There is now a YPF in each of the eight London boroughs that make up the John Lyon’s Charity’s Beneficial Area. There is also considerable interest in replicating the model, which has led to a YPF being established in Manchester and a number of other local authorities expressing interest in the model elsewhere.

The establishment of an independent YPF Trust has now been establised as an independent charity, with the working vision of Thriving Youth Services = Thriving Youth, recognising the critical role that universal, accessible youth services provides in the development, aspiration and potential of children and young people. In order to achieve this, the YPF Trust’s mission will be geared towards ensuring that the existing Young People’s Foundations are impactful and efficient, telling the story of their successes and enabling its successful replication elsewhere.

The YPF Trust's priorities fall under the following Core Functions

• Quality Assurance (new and existing YPFs; quality mark)
• Support (Capacity Building for YPFs, shared functionality)
• Advocate (Promotion and Communication of the model)
• Collaborate (Collaboration between YPFs and national and regional stakeholders)
• Generate (Fundraise)
