About this role

• The Head of Finance is a newly created post, following a period of review within Finance and operations.
• You will manage Finance whilst delivering effective IT systems and HR, with the support of external specialists.

Main responsibilities:

• To oversee all areas of financial planning, budgeting and forecasting to ensure optimal use of resources and achievement of key strategic and financial objectives.
• To provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and mitigate risks.
• To collaborate with other departments to guide financial operations, evaluate investments, manage HR, and comply with legal and statutory regulation and compliance.
• To deliver an effective IT infrastructure, working with consultants.

Financial management:

• Lead strategic and business planning initiatives, including the annual budget programme, and assist in funding applications with input across the management teams.
• Be responsible for all business, financial and governance aspects, including tax and audit, risk management and legal, with the aid of external professional support where required.
• Act as Company Secretary for the Charity and its commercial businesses.
• Manage the internal and external audit process.

Financial procedures, oversight, and reporting:

Ideal experience:

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)

This post will work closely with the Director of Participation, producing all shows which originate from the Participation team, setting up and managing participation projects and working closely with young people and community groups.

About Creative Learning:

The Welsh Government and Arts Council of Wales are collaborating on a major project to enhance the quality of creative learning in Wales’ schools.  An ambitious programme of activity has been set out in Creative Learning through the arts – an action plan for Wales.

The Plan set out a joint implementation strategy that has enabled the Arts Council and Welsh Government to work together to implement the recommendations contained in the Arts in Education review report (Smith 2013).  The plan has been successfully delivered over the 8 years from 2015 – 2023 and the Welsh Government has agreed to continue to work in partnership with the Arts Council of Wales until 2025.

About Project Leads:

There are 6 Project Leads (including this vacancy) and between them they cover the range of duties described in the job description. We are a large-scale, dynamic and forward-thinking restoration and hospitality project in the Northwest Highlands with strong philanthropic and community connections. The heart of our operation is on a remote and beautiful 800-acre island.

We continue to build on our finance team and are seeking a Junior Management Accountant for an exciting opportunity to join us on a full-time, permanent basis. The role will be based at our Ullapool facility with occasional travel to the Island of Tanera Mor. Candidates who wish to work on a hybrid basis with at least 2 days per week on site, will also be considered. As Junior Management Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting the growing team in its day-to-day operations, whilst working with the Finance manager to implement and maintain new systems and procedures.

Responsibilities

· Prepare month end reconciliations and management accounts to a draft position

· Post monthly accounting journals

· Assist with the implementation and administration of the accounting and purchasing systems

· Maintenance of fixed asset register

· Reconcile bank accounts daily

· Quarterly VAT Returns

· Manage weekly supplier payment process

· Maintain, implement and improve internal controls and procedures

· Provide cover and support for other members of the finance team as required

Skills and Experience

· Previous relevant accounting experience and knowledge essential

· Completed or working towards an accounting qualification (AAT or similar) with at least 1-2 years of experience in a finance role

· Strong knowledge of excel

· Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and high level of accuracy

· Confident user of Xero as well as other office applications (applicants with experience of similar accounting packages will also be considered)

· Numerate with strong analytical skills

Guide Salary:

The salary for this role is circa £40,000.

Measures of success – 

In the first few months, you would have:

• Identified new opportunities to develop off-air partnership income through corporate funding applications, charity of the year proposals and where relevant, Trust and Foundation applications.

• Developed a solid understanding of Make Some Noise’s offering and charity portfolio, to leverage them effectively for building new partnerships. 

• Provided exceptional account management, ensuring partnership deliverables align with key objectives and ensure smooth implementation using strong project management skills. 

Responsibilities of the role

• Be responsible for securing a fixed amount of new business annually. Identify and secure new high-value partners through proactive prospecting, engaging pitches, and effective relationship building.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders for seamless partnership delivery, including Grants and Operations, Finance, Legal, and more.

• Brainstorm creative partnership solutions to help us stand out and win both proactive and reactive briefs.

• Identify, explore and network with relevant corporates and philanthropic foundations. 

• Diligently lead account management of large partnerships, providing materials, resources, contracts and project plans as required.

• Produce comprehensive partnership reports to summarize activities to highlight key learnings and recommendations.

• Provide support to Head of Brand Partnerships on all projects and practice adaptability according to external and internal priorities. 

• Develop strong working relationships and exceed expectations with partners to secure repeat business.

• Produce compelling case studies and pitch documents to support new business endeavours and potential award entries.

• Provide leadership and support to the Senior Partnership Executive, providing the tools, processes and encouragement for them to achieve their KPIs.

• Proven track record of hitting fundraising targets within a charity setting, with a goal-oriented mindset.

Desirable qualifications

• Experience in working for a grant-giving charity and / or media environments.

• Track record of securing significant sum multiyear partnerships or restricted grants. 

• Bid writing or charity of the year application experience. 

• Line management experience. 

The Finance Manager is responsible for the day to day operation, management & control of the finance function, including the completion of all finance tasks including financial & management accounting. Reports directly to the Executive Director.

The post holder will have ambition and enthusiasm to drive change in the department to meet the needs of an evolving organisation.They will need experience of working closely with budget holders and ensuring financial processes are embedded.

The Finance Manager is responsible for the day to day operation, accuracy and integrity of the financial accounting systems within the organisation. They are responsible for producing monthly accounts, undertaking variance analysis and implementing financial controls

Responsibilities

Annual Audit
• Overseeing the preparation of the annual audit pack and the statutory audit process.
• Management of the annual audit, liaising with BFT’s auditors.
Financial Planning
• Work as necessary with the Executive Director in drawing up annual company budgets, production budgets, annual operating plans and cash-flows, and long-term financial planning.

Monthly Management Accounts
• Report against annual budget on a monthly basis.
• Accuracy and completeness of data input
• Maintaining Purchase ledger and supplier information.
• Supplier payments.
• Petty cash payments, control, reconciliation and filing.
• Assisting on the export and creation of financial reporting.

Reporting and Accounts
• All financial accounting duties.
• Production of draft Monthly Management accounts for the Belarus Free Theatre.
Person Specification
They will be a good communicator, with the ability to work with a range of staff across all departments, have excellent analytical and spreadsheet skills, hands on experience as well as a formal accounting qualification (or part qualification) such as AAT or ACCA/CIMA.
Essential
• Full or part qualified ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent)
• Experience of Sage Line 50 and Sage payroll
• Excellent and proven IT skills including excel (vlookup, pivot tables etc)
• Accounts preparation to TB and Management Accounts
• A proven track record of managing finance in a small to medium sized organisation
• An understanding of Charity VAT, TTR and PAYE
• Experience of Charity Accounts and SORP
