We have a fantastic opportunity here at Age UK to join our National Advice Line as a Customer Adviser.

We are still in a cost-of-living crisis and the proposed changes to the winter fuel payment criteria mean that many older people in the UK are in desperate need of advice and support. As a Customer Adviser, you will be playing an important role in this vital service; providing information and advice for older people in need, and signposting them, their families, carers and other professionals to relevant bodies that can help with their specific requirements.

Our team of Customer Advisers are dedicated to providing a high-quality service to those in later life and are passionate about ensuring all callers receive the guidance and support they need. The team handles thousands of calls, emails and webchats each year. Some of these enquiries can be emotionally tough, but there is no better feeling than knowing that you have helped someone.

This role offers hybrid working between home and either our Blackpool office, surrounded by excellent amenities or our Ashburton office, situated on the edge of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park (a robust home broadband connection is essential). The team work from the office at least one day a week, although this can be more if you prefer. You will need to live within an easily commutable distance of the office either by car or public transport, we suggest up to an hour's commute. During the probation and training period you will be required to come into the office at least 2 days a week.

Please note that this service is operational every day of the year and the successful applicant will be required to work on some weekends and bank holidays. Currently this is circa 1 in 4/5 weekends.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team at the Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People. You will support our work in providing assistive equipment for Deaf and hard of hearing people in the Bristol area, as well as providing administrative support to our community development projects and CEO.

Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People: 

The Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People (CfD) is a registered small-sized charity that delivers a wide range of services including community development initiatives and assistive equipment services to people in Bristol who are Deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing. Our mission statement includes, we are working toward creating a Bristol “where everyone can participate in all aspects of life in the city, whatever their level of hearing”.

CfD challenges the prejudice and barriers that Deaf and hard of hearing people face in their daily lives. We are developing exciting new plans for activities that will contribute to our aims and promote equality for all deaf people.

Summary of duties:   

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the administrator will support the Equipment Service Team to achieve a high standard of service delivery. 

The administrator will also support the Communities Team and CEO with organising and delivering activities run as part of our community development projects. 

The administrator will also provide broader administrative support to the CEO and to the charity. 

Responsibilities: 

● Be the first point of contact for equipment service clients, usually by phone and email

● Book appointments for clients for the equipment service

● Input client records into our database

● Send out surveys and summarise the responses

● Schedule meetings and take minutes where necessary. This may include taking minutes at Board meetings

● Support with event and activities’ organisation such as booking rooms, preparing publicity, registering participants etc ● Typing standard CfD letters e.g. invoices, communication with clients etc.

● Monitoring and maintaining levels of office supplies and consumables

● Meet and greet any visitors, contractors, clients to the CfD office or to the equipment service resource room

● Answer the CfD office telephone and take messages for staff

● Receive and respond/deal with general email and phone enquiries, postal mail, and messages

● Support with photocopying and scanning as required

● Develop reports as requested

● Proofread letters and documents written by other staff

● Help CfD to meet its Health and Safety responsibilities

● Be part of the team representing CfD at local events and exhibitions

● Part of your role will involve communicating with a mix of hearing, Deaf and hard of hearing people. British Sign Language interpreters and other communication support will be provided to support you if required. 

Any other duties as may be reasonably required for the performance of this position.

Essential skills and competencies:

● At least one year’s experience of working in an office as an administrator

● Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and associated software, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Planner, and simple databases

● Effective and professional telephone manner

● Ability to compose letters and short documents and write in a friendly and direct style

● Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

● Excellent organisational and time-management skills

● A positive attitude towards Deaf and hard of hearing people with some understanding of the barriers they face in their lives.

● Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in communicating with Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users and hard of hearing people. CfD will provide training for the successful candidate if they do not have BSL skills 

● Good attention to detail

Summary of duties:

Our Community Outreach Worker will support the delivery of our new community development project: Connecting People into Communities, funded by Bristol City Council.

The role will include:

• Establishing drop-in sessions throughout Bristol for Deaf and hard of hearing people as a first contact point.

• Signposting/referring individuals to appropriate services and offering support with connecting people into communities – including the Deaf Community, hard of hearing peer support, and local community hubs.

• Providing information on activities and events occurring across Bristol and local hubs.

• Finding out what hard of hearing people in Bristol would like to see CfD offering.

• Strengthening our relationship with community organisations and other community based services, including those who support people from minority ethnic groups.

• Exploring how we can extend our work to reach more Deaf and hard of hearing people aged under 50.

• Developing content for our website so that it becomes a resource for organisations who want to improve their inclusion of Deaf and hard of hearing people.

The post holder will be a part of CfD’s Communities Team and will be expected to support the work of our other community projects i.e. our Deaf People Together and Community Hub projects. The post holder will be based at The Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol BS16 2QQ.

The main responsibilities are to:

• To support the delivery of the Connecting People to Communities project so that it meets its aims by:

- Increasing our contact with organisations and hubs that work with minority ethnic groups throughout Bristol, particularly with those who support older people, and with organisations based in areas of deprivation.

- Working with community hubs (e.g. community centres, libraries etc) to provide regular CfD “drop-ins” – primarily as a first contact point and to alleviate isolation and loneliness.

- Signposting and referring individuals to appropriate services, and supporting individuals with connecting to communities.

- Providing advice and guidance to community hubs on how to make their venues, events and activities accessible to and inclusive of Deaf and hard of hearing people.

- Providing information on activities and events for Deaf and hard of hearing people across Bristol and local hubs.

- Finding out what hard of hearing people in Bristol would like to see CfD offering and what support they need.

• To support the work of our Communities Team by:

- Helping to run events so that local Deaf and hard of hearing people and communities have their say about how services are developed.

- Planning and attending project events e.g. coffee mornings, workshops etc.

- Developing positive relationships between service providers and Deaf and hard of hearing people, and advising providers on how to improve their services to become more accessible and inclusive.

- Supporting the Community Development Officer with collecting project monitoring and evaluation data e.g. equality monitoring data, case studies on the experiences of Deaf and hard of hearing people, and recording information on the database.

- Supporting the Community Development Officer with publicising our Small Community Grants scheme, and supporting existing groups with organising their events/activities.

- Working with the Community Development Officer to set up and facilitate Deaf-led advisory group(s).

• To provide content from project activities for CfD’s website and social media, such as information about activities and events.

• Be part of the team representing CfD at local events and exhibitions.

• Be flexible in your working hours. You may be asked to represent the project at meetings/events outside core working hours, or to complete any other duties that may be reasonably required for the performance of this position.

General

• Attend conferences, training, and other staff development opportunities.

• Develop an agreed personal training plan and carry this out using internal and external training as required.

Terms and conditions:

1. This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours a week. CfD’s core hours are 10am – 4pm. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

2. Contract until January 31st 2026, with possibility of an extension subject to further funding.

3. Salary £22,000 - £27,000 a year.

Note:

The final interpretation of this job description rests with the CEO in consultation with the Board of Trustees and the jobholder. The job description will be reviewed in the course of supervision meetings and any amendments will be negotiated with the jobholder. The jobholder is also expected to share in other CfD activities as time permits and by agreement with the CEO.

About the role

Every piece of data we collect holds a story, a piece of someone’s journey towards better mental health.

This is a pivotal role within the CRM and Insights team, supporting the project team in successfully migrating service user data from the existing Dynamics system to In-Form CRM. You will join us at an exciting time, as we streamline operational systems and data processes, enabling the service teams to serve our communities more efficiently and effectively.

You will be well versed in SQL and database analysis techniques, helping the project team to understand the relationships between the Dynamics entities and how the data can be best transposed into the Salesforce-based CRM, In-Form CRM.

By understanding the Solent Mind's data retention rules, you will assist in inspecting and cleansing the data to ensure that only relevant, accurate, and complete data is migrated to In-Form CRM.

As new data systems are integrated, this role will collaborate with owners of the Finance, HR and Donor Management systems to support the design of viable solutions to extract, transpose, and load data between the different systems. This role is initially offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

About you

You will be highly proficient in manipulating data using Excel and SQL, with proven experience in analysing databases to extract, transform, and load data. You’ll have a strong knowledge of data auditing techniques and processes, along with a good understanding of data management principles and compliance. You’ll be able to communicate technical concepts simply to non-technical colleagues and be comfortable working both autonomously and in a team environment.

Abbots Bank is a mental health, supported housing and community based service, working to a recovery model. We provide a range of support services for people with mental ill health to access in their local community, including outreach support, peer support and supported housing. We have been operating in the area for a number of years and offer a staffed service to our residents aged 18 and upwards.

We know that recovery can look and feel very different to each and every one of us. On 1st June 2024, Richmond Fellowship, part of Recovery Focus, a national group of charities highly experienced in providing specialist support services to individuals and families living with the effects of mental ill health, drug and alcohol use, gambling and domestic violence merged with Humankind to form a single organisation that provides the joined-up mental health, housing and drug and alcohol support we’ve all known has been needed for decades. In October 2024, Humankind will be renamed to reflect the new organisation.

Ruils is a user-led charity based in the Richmond borough that supports disabled children and adults and the elderly to live independently, be part of their community and to live life to the full. We provide information, advice, advocacy, befriending and activities to our clients and their families.

As part of this mission, we deliver accessible and inclusive community group activities and volunteer-based services for disabled residents. Our ambition is to enrich people’s lives, help with their mental health challenges and reduce their isolation and loneliness. We have broadened our community remit to also identify, advise and support residents living with health inequalities in the Borough of Richmond as an NHS Southwest London Integrated Care Board Core20Plus5 Partner.

The localities of focus will be Whitton/Heathfield, Hampton North, Barnes North, Mortlake and Ham & Petersham. These localities are also where Ruils has lower levels of volunteer engagement and consequently community service provision.

Purpose of Post

• Working with the Community and Volunteer Manager to deliver our Community Independent Living Services (CILS). The role entails supporting Ruils’ Group Activities, Befriending, Active from Home Walks, as well as the recruitment and management of Ruils Volunteers.
• Working with the Community and Volunteer Manager, to manage our Core20Plus5 initiative to target resident engagement with community organisations in areas where this is identified as being low.
• To establish the reasons for this and draw up a plan for improved  local engagement by driving volunteer recruitment  and delivering increased  befriending and Active from Home client matches, new group activities, and establishing a trusted reach-out path for the currently dis-engaged residents at our Health and Wellbeing events.
• To provide input to Health and Wellbeing events organised by the Health in your Hands team in areas of focus.

Key Duties

• Support with the recruitment, matching, on-boarding, training and management of Ruils Volunteers in particular areas of focus and across the charity when required.
• Support with the administration and management of the Ruils Befriending, Active from Home Walks, and Community Group Activities, particularly in key areas of focus.
• Support new clients being referred into CILs services to access activities and services.
• Work with clients (with guidance and support) to:
• Access CILS services.
• Match with appropriate befriending volunteers.
• Access social and leisure opportunities in the community.
• Support (where appropriate) with facilitating Ruils online group activities.
• Support with the monitoring of CILS activities.
• Manage our Core20Plus5 initiative to engage with community organisations (council, voluntary, health & wellbeing, resident associations), and local residents to:
• Increase Ruils understanding of local health and wellbeing support needs.
• Record findings of engagements as basis for new services deployment.
• Promote new volunteer requirement at micro-level in targeted localities.
• Evaluate what new group activities will meet local resident wellbeing needs and propose plan for delivery.
• Support the delivery of Ruils Health & Wellbeing Events in key areas of focus including contacting local residents to promote the events.
• Identify, reach out and establish ongoing relationships with like-minded organisations to attend their health and wellbeing events in the targeted localities. As a community connector, outreach should also identity individual influencers in these areas in order to utilise their knowledge, insight and influence with the challenges faced by local residents.
• The goal is to establish a trust and confidence to maximise our engagement with local residents.
• Other duties as deemed appropriate relating to the community services, or Ruils services generally.

relationships with Government, Trade Unions, business groups, Equality and Human Rights
Commission and voluntary sector organisations. Working with staff across the organisation
you will be able to communicate about employment policy effectively to a wide range of
audiences.
You will have an understanding of the social security system as it relates to pregnant women
and new parents, and an ability to analyse policy developments relating to the Department
for Work and Pensions.

Universal Credit (UC) is the fastest growing advice issue for the Citizens Advice service and improving the support available to people making a claim is vital. Our Help to Claim service guides people through the claims process - this will include identifying suitability, helping clients to start their claim and providing support to their first payment.

Citizens Advice Liverpool is looking to recruit Help to Claim advisers with knowledge and experience of welfare benefits to join their team.
