Job Title – Solicitor - Senior Solicitor (Education Law Team)

Contract - Permanent

Hours - 35 hours per week (but part-time minimum 21 hours per week will be considered)

Salary - Our salary range for this role is £31,000 to £48,000 per annum, dependant on experience and PQE. We anticipate that the successful candidate would be able to meet the legal aid supervisor standard or be able to work towards this in a short space of time.

The post holder will also benefit from eligibility for our bonus scheme.

Salary negotiable depending on experience and ability to provide supervision to junior members of the team.

Location – Coram Campus London or Colchester, depending on the preference of the successful candidate.

Contract – 2-year fixed term contract

Hours – Full-time (however part-time with a minimum of 3 days a week will be considered and pay prorated accordingly)

You will also manage your own case work relating to special educational needs and disabilities and discrimination law. The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is the statutory regulator of architects in the UK, under the terms of the Architects Act 1997. Through the Building Safety Act 2022, ARB has the duty of monitoring the training and development that architects complete throughout their careers, which we do through a continuing professional development (CPD) scheme for all architects. As a CPD Reviewer you will evaluate architects’ CPD records for quality assurance and compliance purposes. You will review their anonymised records, to ensure they are following the scheme, and you will provide guidance on how they can improve their approach to their CPD.

We are looking for both lay and architect candidates that have an interest in professional regulation, may have worked in lecturing, training or tutoring roles in an academic or professional setting, have experience of working within a CPD context but are able to review documentation and information against defined review criteria.  Architect candidates must be registered with ARB.

As part of this, we have  expanded the TrustLaw service in Central and Eastern Europe to implement a flagship media freedom project focused on supporting journalists and media in exile.

The Foundation is recruiting a dynamic Legal Officer or Senior Legal Officer to expand the TrustLaw service in Central and Eastern Europe and support its flagship media freedom project focused on supporting journalists in exile. You will report to the Senior Legal Programme Manager, EMENA and work closely with the TrustLaw, Programmes and Media Freedoms teams. The position will be based in London.

About the Role

As a Legal Officer, you will: 

• Support the development of legal content for trainings and workshops that address the critical legal needs facing media outlets and journalists in exile. These are likely to include registration, employment, broadcasting and intellectual property law issues in new jurisdictions, to which they have relocated.

• Design, scope and oversee the development of tools, resources, and other content on key legal issues of relevance to journalists and independent media outlets in exile, such as setting up in new jurisdictions.

• Support the implementation of strategies to recruit, engage, partner and manage relationships with media outlets/NGOs and legal teams, in Central and Eastern Europe.

• Scope legal requests from media organisations and journalists, so that the requests clearly explain the legal needs for lawyers to advise on.

• Manage legal requests from media freedom organisations, journalists or outlets from inception to completion, including connecting our clients with lawyers in the TrustLaw network or other legal service providers, as appropriate, and follow up with the parties involved.

• Oversee, review and support the work of consultants and legal experts working on legal research, beneficiary needs assessments, issue mapping and content development.

• Support the development and implementation of a communications, engagement and outreach plan to media freedom and legal partners in the region, as needed, in collaboration with the Foundation’s Communications, Social and Media Freedom teams.

• Assist and support the project manager and TrustLaw team on the administrative, reporting, planning, monitoring, and logistical responsibilities linked to the role in a timely manner.

• Support the TrustLaw team on media freedom thought leadership projects and, as appropriate, represent TrustLaw by speaking publicly on our work at panels, conferences, or other speaking engagements.

• Travel, when safe to do so.

About You

To be our Legal Officer, you will likely have:

• Legal experience to degree level or equivalent, preferably in human rights and/or media law, with experience working either in a law firm, media house, or non-profit organisation

• Understanding of international standards on press freedom and/or the media law/policy landscape in Europe, specifically Central and Eastern Europe 

• Experience of project management or coordination, especially on donor-funded projects is highly desirable

• Excellent time management and organisational skills including the ability to effectively and independently manage multiple matters and projects in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent research, drafting and analytical skills, with experience in training strongly preferred

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills –able to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally, with people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds

• Experience in Salesforce would be favourable. Experience working with databases essential

• Fluency in English; working knowledge of Russian would be an advantage

• Proven ability to work in a large team with varied stakeholders

• Integrity, professional discretion and ability to handle confidential matters

• Willingness to travel internationally

• Pre-existing right to work in the UK.

This is a full-time fixed term contract until September 2026, based in London. The salary is relative to the charitable sector and will be commensurate with experience.

• Extensive experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and managing financial operations in a complex, global environment.

• Deep understanding of diverse regulatory environments, particularly those relevant to Swiss Foundations.
• Expertise in donor and project funding, FOREX, and cash optimisation in a non-profit context.

This is an exciting opportunity for an immigration adviser to lead our dynamic immigration advice team and help shape the future of the programme as part of the senior management team at a fast-growing charity in London. As IRMO's Immigration Advice Programme Manager, you will bring your expertise and experience together to organise, implement and improve our range of immigration services to offer the maximum benefit for our community, in both the short and long term. 

Your responsibilities will include implementing and progressing the programme's overarching strategy; the ongoing development and training of team members; representing IRMO across broader advice networks; and advising on organisational responsibilities related to immigration. Key Experience and Qualifications for the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified Registered Immigration Adviser at OISC Level 2 or 3 with at least two years of recent and continuous relevant experience in immigration. The ideal candidate will also have a minimum of three years of experience managing programmes or projects, particularly in advice and community support services.

The role requires a proven track record in delivering against targets and demonstrated experience in line managing people in a variety of roles, supporting staff to work to their full potential.

BACKGROUND

The Helen Bamber Foundation (HBF) is a specialist UK charity which provides expert care and support survivors of torture, trafficking and other extreme human cruelty. We work with hundreds of clients every year from all over the world.

The expertise of the Foundation is renowned in the field. Through the Model of Integrated Care, HBF offers survivors access to an individually tailored programme of specialist therapy, medical advisory services, legal protection including providing expert medico-legal documentation as part of the MLR Service, welfare and housing support, and creative and skills activities within an integration programme. Survivors of human trafficking benefit from HBF’s counter-trafficking programme of support.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

HBF is seeking an experienced and dynamic lawyer for an interim period to give direction to the Legal Protection, Medico-Legal and Client Services of the Foundation. This role is crucial for advancing the rights and protection of our clients, many of whom are vulnerable individuals seeking asylum or are survivors of trafficking. We do not provide legal representation directly to our clients, instead we act as a support team to our clients and their legal representation by providing second tier advice.  The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, ensure the highest standards of legal protection, and contribute to the overall mission of the Foundation including developing relationships that promote HBF’s expertise and reputation. This role requires exceptional people management and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead a team, foster collaboration, and articulate complex legal issues clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.

Job Summary

The Commercial Property Lawyer is responsible for providing legal advice on Commercial Property matters generally and playing an important role during the rationalisation of the Charity’s property portfolio. A key element of this role is also to provide business as usual support to the Senior Commercial Property Solicitor and other lawyers within the Legal Team.

About You: 

 To be successful in this role, you will be educated to a degree level, qualified Barrister or Solicitor of England & Wales with at least 3 years post qualification experience and current practising certificate, solid experience of Commercial Property Law and Practice and resourcefulness to develop solutions to complex legal or regulatory challenges. 

 About The Role 

Prepare, review and negotiate complex and routine Commercial Property transactions involved with the disposal of a significant commercial property portfolio via public auction or private treaty. 

Obtain s119 reports and liaise with relevant professionals eg. surveyors to achieve best value for these properties; Liaise with external counsel, draft, review and negotiate contracts; leases, licences, transfer deeds, deeds of surrender and similar documents (with Senior Commercial Property Solicitor’s guidance) 

Analyse title documents and legal descriptions of property; prepare reports on title; prepare completion statements and invoices; prepare Land Registry applications.
