We’re looking for an experienced Governance Officer, who can plan and organise meetings of our trustees and ensure accurate records of those meetings in line with Charity Commission guidance and requirements.

The Biochemical Society and its wholly owned publishing subsidiary Portland Press Ltd (PPL) are seeking an experienced and influential leader to join us as our new Chief Executive, from January 2025 on the retirement of the current postholder Kate Baillie. You will play a crucial role in shaping and delivering a new strategy to increase our income, partnership, and growth potential.

The Biochemical Society was founded in 1911 and currently has around 5,000 members. It is a learned society that is at the forefront of advancing molecular bioscience, promoting its importance as a discipline, facilitating the sharing of knowledge and expertise, and supporting molecular bioscientists across all career stages.

We are looking for a Chief Executive who can continue to grow our profile and positive reputation. To us, this means continuing our excellent work with our trustees, staff, community and stakeholders, enhancing our growth and building new partnerships.

As our new Chief Executive, you will lead us to empower individuals by developing and diversifying our income, providing inspiring leadership to our committed, expert and established team, and acting as an effective advocate and ambassador for the Society.

Our new CEO will work with a small staff and a diverse group of regular teachers and other professionals to develop this long-established organisation. We currently provide yoga classes and workshops for 30,000 students each year. Are you keen to be part of this growing community?

You should be able to balance a wide variety of tasks, and bring your expertise to bear in advising and informing the board of trustees. You should also be able to work with sub-committees to guide them in bringing about the strategic objective of the board.

We are fortunate to own superb, purpose-built yoga studios (the first in Europe) and are marking our fortieth year in Maida Vale this year. We have ambitious medium to long-term plans to develop our work and buildings further. You will be an integral part in bringing this about.

You should bring a willingness to take part in all aspects of the organisation from accounting and management reports to scheduling classes and workshops, and facilities care. This will involve working closely with professional and service-based contractors at every level.

UWSU is looking for a new Director of Membership Services. This department covers four teams working on the frontline of student engagement at the University of Westminster. This role leads of all strategic development, direction and creating positive change for students. This role will line manage four direct reports, deliver on strategy, ensure high performance in student democracy, and ensuring members are empowered to make change.

We’re looking for someone to support our exectutive office. You'll be someone who is able to provide a high level of professional support to the Chief Executive in the effective management of their calendar, correspondence, as well as committee support of the Board of Trustees and it's subcommittees. This role is also responsible for accreditations and managing ad-hoc projects.

Key Information

• Salary: Grade 2.1 - £27,500 raising to Grade 2.2 - £29,592 after 3 months successful probation (pro-rata if part-time)
• Contract: Fixed-term until 25 July 2025
• Hours: Full-time or Part-time (depending on the wishes of the successful applicant)
• Location: Lampeter with hybrid / home working
• Reporting to: Chief Executive

Key duties

1.  To provide high level professional administrative assistance to the Chief Executive, SMT, and Sabbatical Officers.
2.  To be responsible for keeping the records and supporting the regular business of the Trustee Board and Subcommittees.
3.  To project manage submissions for accreditations i.e. SOS UK Green Impact, Quality Students’ Unions, etc

Essential Criteria

• Ability to read and write fluently to an exemplary standard in English
• Ability to read and write at a basic conversational level in Welsh
• Good general education i.e. A-levels, including English and Welsh to at least to GSCE or equivalent
• Awareness of the 1994 Education Act (Part II)
• Previous experience of providing high level administrative support to senior staff as well as diary management
• Previous experience of servicing multiple committees
• Demonstratable expert knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams
• Ability to maintain extreme sensitivity and confidentiality
• Be committed to social inclusion, diversity, and equity

Desirable Criteria

• Knowledge of, and experience in delivering, the statutory requirements of Companies House and/or the Charity Commission
• Experience of supporting recruitment of external trustees
• Experience of editing web content through WYSIWYG
• Experience of submitting evidence for and projecting managing accreditations

About the Role 

As the Head of Programmes, you will take on a strategic leadership role, managing the team of Programme Managers and deputising for the CEO when required. You will ensure each programme flourishes while encouraging collaboration across teams and with external partners to meet our ambitious objectives. This is a hybrid role, allowing you to work from home and travel to see our programmes in action nationwide. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Line managing senior programme staff, including a dispersed workforce 
• Overseeing operational demands and change management 
• Financial management - budgeting, forecasting, invoices, embracing fundraising 
• Actively promoting equality of opportunity and being a powerful advocate for our cause 
• Confident communication and stakeholder engagement across sectors 
• Supporting strategic direction and deputising for the CEO when required 

You will work closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team of 10, and a delivery team of around 40 colleagues. 

About You 

We are seeking an exceptional communicator and versatile senior leader committed to providing quality opportunities for disadvantaged children. You must have: 

• Proven success line managing senior programme staff and a dispersed workforce 
• Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and forecasting 
• Working with the Impact and Learning Lead to ensure broad and deep understanding and implementation of our Theory of Change and our values, that evaluation and learning are embedded throughout the organisation and that we are known for the quality of our reporting, with all our activities and reporting informed by meaningful data. 
• To identify and develop key partnerships to enable us to extend our reach and our impact. 
• Excellent written and oral communication skills 
• Confidence and competence to act at Board level and deputise for CEO 

Additionally, you should have: 

• Strategic thinking abilities to balance priorities and find solutions 
• A collaborative approach suited to a dynamic team environment 
• A desire to support colleagues' growth and development

The Ian Karten Charitable Trust is looking for a home-based, self-employed administrator to cover the current incumbent who is going on maternity leave in July 2024.  The Trust is a grant making trust focused on disability and education.

The role is very flexible; hours required are generally between 8 and 16 per month. With the exception of two trustee meetings annually, which usually take place at mutually agreed times during office hours, most of the work can be carried out according to the postholder’s individual commitments and availability.

The administrator will report to the Chair of Trustees, and will be responsible for ensuring that the administrative processes necessary for the running of the Trust are smooth and efficient. This will include monitoring emails and communicating with grantees, processing payments, preparing and distributing papers for trustee meetings, taking minutes at trustee meetings and following up on agreed actions, and ensuring any necessary documentation is kept up to date.
