Women V Cancer is a unique partnership between Dream Challenges, Breast Cancer Now and Ovarian Cancer Action. Together, we have raised more than £20 million in fundraising across a portfolio of one day mass participation cycling events and overseas multi-day cycling challenges.

The partnership has big aspirations for growth and is looking for someone to join as a Fundraising and Partnerships Officer with key responsibilities in relationship management across the partners, reporting and analysis, events marketing, and participant stewardship.

The right candidate will be a self-driven and experienced fundraiser, whose knowledge of marketing strategies in fundraising and events, alongside an impactful supporter journey, can enable the development and growth of this long-standing partnership. You will have experience of the charity sector, event delivery, and social media marketing.

Key Areas 

Marketing and stewardship

• Increase participant numbers on events through comprehensive and diverse marketing campaigns.
• Assist in digital advertising of events including creations of social media campaigns and PPC.
• Assisting in maintenance and digital creation on the branded WVC microsite.
• Develop the partnerships first user-generated video content campaigns, and influencer campaigners, alongside the group Digital Marketing Manager.
• Assist with automated journeys from lead generation marketing.
• Assist with social media channels and assist in creating social media marketing.
• Create and send email marketing campaigns.
• Deliver stewardship journeys of registered participants on events.
• Increase the average fundraising raised per participant.
• Increase engagement and communications across relevant social media groups.

Relationship management

• Build strong relationships with all three parties and represent key stakeholder interests both internally and externally.
• Understand each individual partner’s ways of working, their individual tone of voice and organisational visions and ensure these are implemented across the partnership. 
• Coordinate project groups, communications and meetings, working with various teams within all parties to plan and schedule activities.

Reporting and analysis

• Work with the Marketing team and representatives from each of the charities to undertake campaign reporting, as well as post-event analysis including, but not limited to, audience insight and feedback, engagement and attendance rates, and fundraising per participant. 
• Establishing a clear payment schedule for both sides for marketing contributions and donations.
• Track performance including registration numbers and income – reporting back to all parties.
• Undertake analysis work to improve understanding of current audience demographics and their interests, reviewing this regularly to ensure accuracy.
• Undertake regular competitor analysis work to scope trends and gaps in the marketplace – looking at how we benchmark ourselves against our competitors.
• Support on the strategic planning devised by all partners, providing insight learnt from the portfolio and audience analysis to help shape this.

General 

• Keep up to date with sector knowledge to ensure best practice. 
• Identify new trends and scope out new product development. 
• Support all elements of event delivery (including volunteer recruitment, training weekends), attending UK and overseas events when required.
• Help identify and build relationships with relevant celebrities or influencers to contribute to the Women V Cancer marketing strategy
• Work alongside charity partners to develop supporter journeys for a series of UK and Overseas events which will increase conversion, average gift and retention.
• Identifying high value fundraisers and create a specific supporter journey for these individuals.

Purpose of Role: 

Reporting to the Supporter Care Manager, you will deliver excellent customer care to supporters and potential supporters of Operation Smile UK. As an integral part of the Supporter Care team, you will successfully support the Individual Giving programme and wider fundraising activities, providing support to ever increasing income and supporter stewardship for the delivery of increasing levels of unrestricted income for Operation Smile UK.

Key Responsibilities:

• Be the first point of contact for existing supporters and new supporters who respond to our fundraising activities by phone, email, letter or in person, letter, or email delivering outstanding supporter care
• Liaise with supporters in timely communication via email, phone, and mail with excellent customer care

About RLS 

RLS is a UK charity and a non-profit company in Greece (AMKE). 

Refugee Legal Support works in solidarity with people who migrate. We operate in the UK, France and Greece, promoting and protecting rights through legal support, casework, litigation, engagement, training and partnerships. We advocate for safe migration and oppose discriminatory immigration systems and policies.

RLS has held a legal aid contract in the UK since 2023. 

About the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative (APBI)

The Afghan Pro Bono Initiative is a specialist casework project delivered by RLS with funding and pro bono assistance from 14 leading commercial law firms. It is a project delivered in partnership with SPI. 

Firm pro bono lawyers are trained and supervised by the project’s two full-time supervising lawyers so that they can then assist with legal casework.

APBI has two core components. The team delivers legal information and support to and within the Afghan community, working together with the Community Engagement and Research Lead to ensure wide access. While the project also provides high quality legal representation in a range of cases for this community. This includes family reunion, the ARAP scheme, the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme and others. 

APBI then aims to respond to the increased need for legal information, advice and representation of Afghan nationals and their family members forced to seek protection and reunion with family in the United Kingdom following the Taliban takeover. The project is now going into its 3rd year, and won the Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership Award at the Law Works Pro Bono Awards in 2022 as well as being nominated and commended for numerous other awards in 2022 and 2023. 

The casework of this project feeds into strategic research, policy and advocacy efforts to make existing ‘safe’ routes to protection (in particular refugee family reunion and resettlement schemes) more accessible and effective, advocate for their expansion and defend the fundamental rights of people on the move by influencing policy and decision making. 

Litigation arising out of the project is actively pursued (where eligible) under RLS’s legal aid contract to push for better decision-making, secure results for individuals and pursue improvements in the relevant law, policy and practices. 

RLS recognise that pro bono legal work is always an adjunct to, and not a substitute for, an adequate system of publicly funded legal services. 

Key responsibilities and objectives

The post holder will be a staff member of Refugee Legal Support. They will be a participant within the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative project team, which comprises two lawyers (the other being at SPI), a coordinator and a Community Engagement and Research Lead in addition to the volunteer lawyers from the individual commercial firm partners. 
 

Key responsibilities

• Manage a small caseload and provide high quality legal advice and representation to clients;

• Supervise the work of volunteer pro bono commercial lawyers on cases;

• Deliver training to pro bono commercial lawyers;

• Ensure that all legal work is promptly and accurate recorded on RLS’s case management system and keep relevant time recording; 

• Develop and disseminate relevant information on legal developments in this area for relevant stakeholders, including both the Afghan Community and building the capacity of other practitioners;

• Work in close collaboration with the other project Lawyer/s to develop and share experiences and best practice in relation to all aspects of casework (legal, evidential and procedural) and relevant internal processes;

• Work in close collaboration with the Legal Director, Programmes Manager and Coordinator to ensure that appropriate steps to achieve the aims and objectives of the project are taken, including ensuring that relevant data is obtained and assisting with the timely completion of the project Operational Plan/s;

• Work in close collaboration with the APBI Coordinator and Programmes Manager to contribute to the production of materials such as project periodic reports, information on emerging and strategic issues in relation to ‘safe’ routes for use in advocacy, content for newsletters, social media posts and articles to raise awareness of the project and its aims and outputs;

• Participate in, and contribute to, RLS’s monitoring, evaluation and learning framework;

• Be an active member of the RLS team participating in team meetings at both the UK and International level: engaging in a collegiate and collaborative environment that includes participating in the development of a new and exciting legal organisation;

• Experience of refugee family reunion procedures and applications, including applications outside of the Immigration Rules reliant on Article 8 ECHR and other human rights provisions;

• Experience of online immigration applications; 

• Demonstrable knowledge of legal aid provision and ECF applications;

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

As a key member of the leadership team, the Head of Operations (HOO) plays a vital role in the development and delivery of Cockpit’s strategic plan, working closely with the Chief Executive. The HOO will ensure operational excellence, site optimisation in Bloomsbury and Deptford and lead on property strategy. The role encompasses oversight of the maker community, management of IT systems, leading on HR and responsibility for health and safety compliance.

This role would suit an entrepreneurial self-starter with demonstrable experience in property and building management, project management, budget and fiscal control, HR and team management. Knowledge of planning, business and charity financing, leasehold and landlord-tenant legislation is desirable.  The role requires strong negotiation skills and the ability to exert influence and maintain critical relationships. It requires a keen focus on delivery and detail as well as the ability to retain big picture perspectives.  Exemplary communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. 

MAIN DUTIES: 

1 PROPERTY AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT 

Cockpit has two sites in Deptford and Bloomsbury. At each site, a Studio Manager has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the sites and liaison with makers.  The Studio Managers will report to the HOO who will coordinate, plan and/or oversee all the practical management of the buildings including repairs and maintenance; alterations and refurbishments; space allocations and use of space; health and safety; tenant/maker welfare/support etc. 

The HOO will manage the Studio complexes to ensure they meet the requirements of the charity and resident makers while ensuring commercial optimisation.

The HOO will ensure efficient use of space and consider charitable and commercial objectives when setting prices and rates to ensure a balanced outcome.  The HOO is responsible for ensuring compliance on all aspects of Health and Safety, insurance and risk assessment. 

The HOO is responsible for project managing all future real estate projects from inception to completion. They will ensure that sufficient resources, budgets and expertise are in place for such projects. The HOO will sit on Cockpit’s Property Committee. 

2 LEASES, INSURANCE, LEGAL, RATES AND LA 

With oversight from the CEO and Board, and relevant legal advice, the HOO will manage leasehold negotiations with Cockpit’s landlord, Camden Council.  The HOO will report on such matters to the Property committee of the Board.

Working with the CEO, the HOO will manage licences issued to studio holders developing pricing structures and documentation that reflect Cockpits charitable aims and commercial objectives. 

Working with the CEO, the HOO will set hire rates, rentals and other pricing related to Cockpits spaces and services in line with Cockpit’s charitable aims and commercial objectives. They will be responsible for issuing associated contracts and licences. 

The HOO will oversee all insurance requirements and ensure that terms required are met.  The HOO will oversee legal compliance issues in collaboration with the CEO and as directed. 

The HOO will maintain good relationships with Local Authorities and be responsible for monitoring and overseeing all rates or other levies in relation to the buildings or the charity itself. 

3 COMMERCIAL EVOLUTION AND PROJECTS  

The HOO will take an active leadership role in developing and delivering commercial opportunities for the charity in line with its charitable objectives and the strategic plan.  The HOO will lead on the strategy for development of space and venue hire, tours, better utilisation of space, and AV studio hire. The HOO will evaluate commercial opportunities/risks and will manage the delivery and ultimate running of such spaces. 

The HOO will also oversee the successful delivery and oversight of the cafe operator in Deptford.

4 LIVE EVENTS  

The HOO will actively contribute to the creative development of Cockpit events, including but not limited to Open Studios. They will be responsible for the operational planning and timely delivery of the events including budget management. The Event Manager and Events Coordinator will report into the HOO on all relevant events.

The HOO will be responsible for ensuring there is clear post event reporting from all departments, and that this is tracked year on year to ensure it informs future strategy, budgets and investment.

5 YOUTH AND COMMUNITY 

Working with the CEO, HOO is responsible for overseeing Cockpit’s Youth and Community activities. They will be responsible for the recruitment and management of the producer, as well as overseeing budgets. The HOO will oversee the programming of any Youth & Community activities across the year and ensure these are aligned to the charities objectives and are properly funded. They will work closely with the Head of Development and Youth and Community Producer to ensure Cockpit targets the correct funding bids and works with the correct partners to deliver impactful programmes in a cost-effective manner. 

6 IT and DATA MANAGEMENT 

The HOO is responsible for managing Cockpit’s external IT consultant to ensure that all hardware and software bought and used by the charity is up-to-date, efficient, cost effective, secure and suitable for the charity’s activities. 

The HOO is responsible for overseeing all software and digital upgrades including but not limited to the charity’s CRM, cloud-based services and future automation.

7 DATA AND GDPR 

The HOO will play a central role in the planning and correct implementation of any data programme for Cockpit. This will be in close collaboration with the Head of Marketing and Digital and the CEO.

The HOO is responsible for GDPR for Cockpit and will take on responsibility for compliance and other copyright or legal practices in relation to safe data management, firewall implementation, working closely with the Head of Marketing and Digital on these matters.

8 COMPLIANCE, RISK REGISTER, HANDBOOKS, HR 

The HOO has line management responsibility for the Deptford and Bloomsbury Studio Managers, Events and Venue Coordinator, Event Manager, Youth and Community Producer and overall responsibility for Cockpit’s HR function. 

The HOO will take responsibility for ensuring compliant staff practices in relation to up-to-date staff contracts, health and safety, maternity and all other relevant HR matters.  In association with the CEO and Financial Controller, the HOO will manage and record annual leave. 

The HOO will work with the Studio Managers to ensure good Maker welfare and be responsible for policies that result in positive outcomes in relation to the Cockpit community. 
 

The HOO will liaise with the CEO and advise on risks in the HR area and will sit on the People Committee of Cockpit.

The HOO will evaluate when HR risk requires external advice and will agree any necessary actions with CEO. 

The HOO will be responsible for the Staff Handbook, The Trustee Handbook, Maker Welcome Pack/Handbooks and all relevant compliance materials for updating and circulation, including all company policies.

Working with the CEO, the HOO will manage the Risk Register and update the Board in a timely manner on any pertinent and impending changes to that with the potential to impact the charity. The HOO will be a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARCo) of Cockpit.

The HOO will take on responsibility for recruitment practices and onboarding activities for new employees, contractors and trustees. 

The HOO will oversee the performance review process, coordinate staff training and be responsible for the training budget. 

9 DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION 

In conjunction with the CEO, the HOO will oversee and implement policies that foster and reflect the charity’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.  This may include managing new and existing initiatives, updating policies and undertaking formal reviews.  The HOO will champion Cockpit’s diversity objectives at the Board’s People Committee (PeCo). 

10 COMMITTEES AND BOARD 

The HOO will provide a support role to the CEO on preparation of Board papers and reports.  The HOO will coordinate committee meeting dates and circulate them to the members appropriately, with administrative support.  The HOO will oversee the minutes for all meetings, working with an external minute taker. The HOO may maintain activity lists and will work with the CEO and the Board of Trustees to ensure exceptional Governance.

11 CEO DEPUTISATION  

The HOO will support the CEO as needed and may, on occasion, be asked to provide support to the Board of Trustees and the Chair.

Summary of role 

Reporting to the Head of Communications and Engagement, this role will provide critical support during a busy period, until the end of 2024.

Broad communications and engagement tasks range from content creation, maintaining project plans and records, handling logistics and the creation of communications materials for events, to processing membership applications and assisting with a new youth campaign.

Additionally, the role involves providing occasional executive assistance to the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. 

A key focus for the organisation during this time will be on the successful delivery of the 2024 Global Summit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 4-5 December. The 2024 Global Summit is a high-profile event involving numerous stakeholders, including senior officials from government, private sector, and civil society organizations worldwide. 

This remote position is based in the UK, with occasional travel to Central London and travel to the UAE in early December 2024.

The ideal candidate should be proactive, passionate about project management and communication, quick to learn, and have excellent attention to detail. This opportunity is also a great way to gain experience in communications while focusing on logistics and coordination.

Job description 

Overall purpose of role 

Key responsibilities include: 

1. Broad support to the Communications and Engagement team, including: 

• Helping draft content for the Alliance newsletter, website and social media. 

• Supporting delivery of online webinars and roundtables, managing registrations and following up on enquiries. 

• Completing due diligence checks on new membership applications. 

• Supporting the update of key membership information and presentations. 

• Supporting delivery of a participation roundtable of our members.

• Supporting delivery of a youth campaign, providing project support and liaison with external stakeholders.

2. Event coordination tasks, including supporting the successful delivery of our 2024 Global Summit: 

• Maintaining events project plans and liaising across teams to ensure tasks, activities and deliverables are captured, up-to-date and accurate. 

• Collating content including delegate information packs, programme content and other collateral, liaising across the team and with Alliance members and external suppliers. 

• Tracking and monitoring enquiries about the Summit and coordinating responses. 

• Ensuring our CRM is kept up to date with accurate contact details and is GDPR compliant. 

• Supporting in setting up of and managing event registration including responding to registration queries, processing registrations, monitor registrations and escalate queries as necessary.

The role will also provide occasional administrative support to the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer (~10% of the role’s time). This will include supporting diary management, booking travel, taking meeting notes, collating papers and briefs, and assisting with general administrative support on tasks, as required.

If time allows, the role may also be required to support other team projects across the Alliance Secretariat.

Person Specification 

Essential skills, experience and knowledge

• A minimum of two years’ experience working in a similar role. 

• Project administration experience. 

• Strong communications skills, with native English language proficiency. 

• Experience working with detailed project management plans. 

• Excellent drafting and editing skills for a range of formats, including for articles, briefings, and reports, with a keen eye for attention to detail. 

• Strong organisational skills, including ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workloads. 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with a friendly and professional demeanour. 

• High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry. 

• Able to work independently and as part of a small team.

Desirable skills, experience and knowledge

We are also looking for someone with experience and/or skills to manage own workload and work with minimum of supervision.

Previous experience of working with volunteers would be useful but not essential as training is provided and experience of undertaking risk assessments would be useful.
