Official Job Title: Early Literacy Interventionist 

Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you keen to work with children to support and develop their phonics and reading skills? 

38% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard. Chapter One is a fast-growing charity, with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills they need to thrive. We work to ensure that all children have 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.

Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme (based on a model that serves 20,000 children successfully in the USA) provides daily, 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool, a trained Early Literacy Interventionist works individually with target children. 

We are seeking a part-time Early Literacy Interventionist (ELI), based at Galleywall Primary School in Southwark, South London. This ELI role, reporting to the Schools Development Manager, is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop and grow their knowledge of phonics and/or their teaching skill set. It is ideal for someone with previous school experience who is looking for a new and exciting challenge.

For your caseload of target children, you will conduct an initial baseline assessment and then deliver differentiated, 1:1, targeted, 7 minute phonics sessions to pupils using a systematic, synthetic approach. Although you are employed by Chapter One, you will work closely with the school team to understand the progression of the school’s phonics teaching; establish tailored plans for each child and feedback on pupil progress. Using your knowledge and insight, you will also collaborate with colleagues at Chapter One to further improve the ELI model, the online tool and programme delivery.

The Hammersmith and Fulham service comprises of one high support hostel and two medium support hostels, housing 24 people experiencing mental ill health who may also have other complex support needs including substance use and offending behaviour or who may present with behaviours which can challenge.

About the role:

The primary role of the project is to enable clients to understand their emotional and mental health needs and manage these effectively. The Project Worker will also support clients to develop their living skills, develop & manage relationships, build social networks and access education, training or employment, by completing comprehensive needs and risk assessments with clients and identifying short-term objectives.

The projects provide support 24 hours a day and are staffed by a Night Concierge and Project Workers, this requires regular weekend working. All work undertaken will be in line with planned support. Staff are responsible for making sure that clients are actively involved in the process and that the support offered is full and holistic.

About you:

• Demonstrable experience of working with people experiencing mental health problems and other complex needs.
• A demonstrable understanding of Mental Health Legislation and how it can be applied.
• A good understanding of safeguarding issues and the ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessments related to this.
• A working knowledge of Housing Management as applied to a residential setting, and an understanding of the rights and responsibilities associated with various forms of tenure including excluded licenses.
• A demonstrable understanding of the Recovery Model, and the ability to engage and motivate people to move towards independence and inclusion.
• A proven ability to work in partnership with external stakeholders, particularly community mental health services and/or substance use services.
• A proven ability to create and deliver SMART action plans with clients through high quality risk and needs assessment.
• A level of numeracy sufficient to carry out tasks such as budgeting with clients, calculating benefit entitlements and monitoring rent payment.

The Community Builder role focuses on making connections within the community and facilitating local community groups to develop activities and events. This role focuses specifically on engaging younger adults (16 - 30 yrs) and is expected to work closely with existing staff and other community builders in the local area. 

We are ideally seeking applicants with experience of community devlopment work, and good knowledge of digital media. It may well suit someone with lived experience from the target group, or experience of working with this age group.

Main Purpose of Role

·To work with local community groups and individuals using an asset-based approach, to help them become more active in their local communities

·To provide particular focus on connecting younger adults (16-30 years) with their local neighbourhood and wider communities of interest

·To create digital content in support of PRC’s marketing and communications programme, to raise the charity’s profile and promote its role in the local community. In particular, to share positive stories to promote community activities and events, and inspire individuals to participate

Key Tasks

·To engage with local communities within Pershore and its surrounds using an ‘strengths based’ approach, with particular focus on younger adults who are socially isolated

·To create an ‘asset map’ for the local area (e.g. individuals, associations, institutions, places etc.) and identify local connectors

·Support local residents to identify what is important to them, and to create associations, activities or events which are sustainable beyond the project. This will include helping people to identify and source the necessary resources and funding

·Bring together individuals who wish to get more involved in the community, providing support and mentoring to achieve these goals 

·Engage with a range of local organisations and associations (e.g. Wellbeing Hub, Police, library, local businesses), individual community connectors and supporters to create a network of interdependent community support, and to facilitate delivery of community-led projects and solutions

·Work alongside other Community Builders in Wychavon area to ensure alignment of projects, maximise use of local resources and share information, tools and learning

·Facilitate social events, community meetings and ideas fairs at PRC and in the local area to support residents in developing their own programme of activities

·Gather stories, data, outcomes and other evidence of impact for both formal reporting and promotional use

·In collaboration with the Centre Manager develop and deliver a marketing and communications plan which amplifies the local impact of the Community Builder programme and the profile of PRC more widely – with particular emphasis on digital marketing

·Work within the PRC policy framework, with particular regard to Safeguarding policies and procedures and personal safety

THE ROLE
The Contracts Manager will join our Operations team to represent the Woodland Trust locally, supporting a diverse portfolio of sites within North England, in line with the Trust’s standards and ensuring the safety of our colleagues, visitors, contractors and volunteers. It shall be the Contracts Manager’s responsibility to support Site Managers’ in the preparation and delivery of grant applications, operational contracts and projects including silvicultural operations. 

The Contracts Manager will initiate, develop and project manage new innovative projects within and across the woodlands, working with external partner and a cross-departmental team of foresters, people engagement specialists, communications specialists and funders.

They will identify opportunities to streamline services, develop our contractor base and maximise the income and grant aid potential of work programmes. They are responsible for ensuring that all necessary agreements, mitigations and consents are in place in preparation for the delivery of contracts and in accordance with all Woodland Trust Health and Safety policies and procedures.

This is a 2-year fixed term contract until end of April 2026. A company car will be provided with this role.

THE CANDIDATE
With previous experience in land-based management in the forestry, woodland management, or nature conservation sector, you’ll have experience in writing and reviewing site management plans, budget and contract management, and Health and Safety management.

You’ll have experience in the writing and delivery grant schemes across woodland creation and for specifying, instructing, and supervising woodland management operations. You’ll be experienced in planning, monitoring, and delivering multi-disciplinary projects to time and to budget and in engaging with contractors and suppliers on pricing, implementation, and delivery.

You must have a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude, excellent communication skills, be commercially aware and able to build effective partnerships internally and externally.  You’ll have experience engaging with external stakeholders, communities and volunteers with a collaborative approach. A working knowledge of the operational, ie Forest Works Management of woodlands would be desirable.

A full driving licence is a must have, along with the ability to undertake travel across a wide area, sometimes to remote locations. Occasional overnight stays will be required and you will be expected to live in the region and within easy reach of key sites in North England.

This is an incredibly exciting time to join Claire House as we deliver an ambitious five-year strategy to reach more children and develop our second site in Liverpool. We need an experienced internal communications officer who can take complex ideas and make them sound simple and engaging.

This role will provide expert internal communications advice and support across the organisation, helping to communicate progress on key projects and improving employee engagement and organisational culture. You will also work with external stakeholders including families and healthcare professionals. The job will include drafting messaging, copy writing, developing engaging content and marketing materials and implementing communications project plans.

Previous experience in a similar organisation is desirable, but internal communications expertise, lots of energy and an ability to build relationships are essential. In return, this role will offer an opportunity to help the hospice transform the way it works, massively increase its impact and the vital support it offers to seriously and terminally ill babies, children, young adults and their families.

This role is full time 37.5 hours per week.

In this full-time role (35 hours per week), you'll provide crucial administrative support during a busy period. Initially, the position will run for 2 months with potential for extension.

• Collaborating with academic advisors and directors to manage SPA applications.
• Maintaining updated student records and organising events for both inbound and outbound students.
• Updating study abroad information across various platforms and gathering student feedback to improve their experience.
• Coordinating visits from partner institutions and assisting with collaborative provision opportunities.

To be considered, you should have experience in a similar fast-paced administrative role, preferably in a student-facing capacity. Strong written communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Familiarity with the SITS system and previous experience in study abroad or partnership work would be advantageous, although similar systems and transferable experience will be considered.
