Mind in Salford is an independent, user focused charity providing vital services that make a positive difference to the wellbeing and mental health of local people.

We represent the voice of Salford in campaigning to dispel stigma and influence political, social and cultural change around mental health. We are passionate about promoting positive mental health and are committed to supporting local people living with mental health problems to get both support and respect.

We are particularly proud of the brilliant work we have done in recent years, especially continuing to provide outstanding advocacy and support throughout the Global Pandemic, and improving psychological wellbeing within the LGBTQ+ community through our innovative Radical Self-Care programme with Rainbow Mind.

We are delighted to be looking to invite new members to join our Board of Trustees, with skills that will complement those of existing trustees and who are committed to the mission and values of our organisation. We currently have 2 vacancies for Trustees to join us from September.

The role of a board member is to set the policy framework and organisational structure which will enable Mind in Salford to promote positive mental health and deliver outstanding services to people in the local area.

We welcome people from all the diverse communities in the area that have an interest in mental health and have a passion to help support and champion the work of Mind in Salford. We are also particularly interested in recruiting individuals with knowledge and experience in Fundraising, Finance and Safeguarding, and those with lived experience of mental health problems.

Are you the new Chair-designate for Reading Community Learning Centre?

Do you have enthusiasm and skills to cooperatively govern and lead our charity that supports women learners?

You could be the Chair-designate of Reading Community Learning Centre, a charity serving the needs of local refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant women. We stand proudly for equality and women’s rights, and are looking for a woman Chair-designate to take on the role of leading our Board, supported by our outgoing Chair for a handover period of up to 12 months.
Although this is a voluntary position, the provisions of Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010 effectively apply as they would for our employment of women-only staff.

About us:

Set up in 2007, we are a Charitable Company that helps often-marginalised women to achieve their individual potential, through helping them improve their English, build confidence, make friends, volunteer locally, gain qualifications or secure a job.

In the 2022-23 academic year, 420 women from 36 different countries attended classes at the Centre, and 874 women received information, advice and support, through our charitable spending of around £200k.

About the role

We’re looking for a woman to lead our Board, to work with other trustees and our Centre Manager to shape our future supporting and empowering women.

If you can think and lead strategically, and help us plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed to be our Chair-designate and eventual Chair. Support from our employees is always available, as they will be dealing with the day-to-day running of the organisation.

Experience of committee or similar work, an understanding of cooperative leadership and a strong focus to shape the forward-looking Board, are what we are looking for. You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as induction will be provided, plus specialist guidance as a new trustee, including access to external training.

This is a high-profile appointment, with strong commitment to the future of Reading Community Learning Centre an essential quality, and having a good understanding of the value for the women we help. Trustees make the top-level decisions for our charity: our Board includes women with understanding, skills and experience of our support, and we require new trustees to have empathy with our cause. 

We are a charity, not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. Admin Volunteer (Legacy & In-memory Fundraising)

Role summary

Are you looking to use your admin skills to make a difference? You’ll provide admin support to our Legacy & In-memory Fundraising team to ensure that our supporters receive exceptional supporter care. 

About the team

The Legacy team, comprised of 4 staff members, sits within our High Value Partnerships division, alongside Philanthropy, Trusts and Foundations, Corporate Partnerships and Business Development.

Legacy gifts are a vital source of unrestricted income, and we are targeting significant growth. The legacy team are responsible for raising awareness of legacy & in-memory giving to acquire new supporters, stewardship existing supporters as well as the legacy administration of all legacy gifts left to Shelter and Shelter Scotland.

• Suggested involvement: Approximately 2 days per week between the hours of 9am – 5pm. We can be flexible around your commitments. We suggest joining us for a minimum of 6 months.
• Location: Either home-based or in your local Shelter building.
• Supervised by: Senior Legacy & In-Memory Executive

Main tasks

• Support with responding to legacy and in-memory enquiries by phone and post and manage the correspondence in the legacies email inbox.
• Ensure tailored thank you letters and communications are sent to our supporters, helping them feel thanked, valued and informed on our work.
• Thank online in-memory donations through Just Giving, MuchLoved and other ad hoc in-memory giving platforms.
• Sharing information about our free will writing service with our supporters and referring them our free will writing partner, the National Free Wills Network.
• Utilise the supporter database, Microsoft Dynamics 365, to ensure supporter records and legacy stage journeys are kept up-to-date.

Skills and Experiences Required

• Passionate about joining the fight for home.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and internet.
• Comfortable with using supporter databases, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or similar.

About EduSpots

EduSpots is a UK and Ghanaian registered organisation which connects, trains, and equips local volunteers to drive sustainable community-led change through education centres named ‘Spots’. Together, we are creating a movement of community-based educators. Since 2016, through working with over 300 local volunteers, we have supported nearly 50 communities in creating community-led education spaces (libraries) named ‘Spots’, with an aim to move them towards our ‘Dream Spot Model’.

We won the Tes International Award in 2018, the Big Give Supporters’ Choice Award in 2022 and were selected as a finalist for the Their World Innovation Prize in 2023.

Internship opportunity 

We are looking for highly independent and self-motivated interns who are keen to gain practical skills and understanding relating to education and international development, and provide wide-ranging support to our team in Ghana and the UK, to enable us to increase our impact in a period of growth. 

The internship will be remote for 3 months starting as soon as possible, with the opportunity of extending this period. The time is 8 hours / week but this can be spread out throughout the week. Due to limited organisational time, we need interns to be committed to the work, supoprting as needs emerge, and able to work independently. We will consider interns in any geographical location. 

You will gain huge insight into education and international development through learning and being inspired on a daily basis on WhatsApp by our active network of 250 volunteers in rural Ghana who are the main focus of our work and our reason for existence. 

Key areas of delivery 

We have three areas of internship offer currently:

1. Communciations Intern - working with our Head of Communications on a wide range of communications tasks. You should have strong writing and research skills, alongside beginner design and content creation abilities. 

2. Programmes Team Intern - working with our Education & Research Manager to support tasks across the programmes team. This is likely to include design work (using basic Canva), alongside wider proof-reading and research/evaluation work, based on emerging needs. 

3. Leadership Team Intern - working with our regional coordinator team and Head of Operations to support the leadership development of our local Catalysts - tasks are likely to involve design work, marking their monthly challenges, and offering administrative and proof reading support where needed. 

For all three roles, candidates should be highly felxible and be ready to develop basic Canva design skills if you don't have these skills already. You would join all team meetings and our in-house professional development programme.

We are looking for interns with the following:

• Strong communication skills - e.g. written and verbal in English 

• Strong IT skills - e.g. ability to use Microsoft Office, Google Drive, social media etc.

The new trustee we are seeking will be passionate and innovative with knowledge or experience in the further education sector, whether this is a college, adult education, employment-based learning or a community-based provision.

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Volunteers. About the project and role

Prevention Matters help adults regain confidence, maintain independence and help them get out and about. The Community Support Workers support clients by finding help, signposting to other services, connect with others in the local community and provide encouragement to get involved in social events.

You can make a difference to people’s lives as a Prevention Matters volunteer by:

Increase or maintain social links such as attend local events, transport to coffee mornings

· Accompany clients on GP or hospital appointments

· Teach clients new digital skills such as email, Skype or how to search the web.

· Practical support in the garden or a spot of DIY in their home

· Assistance with hoarding disorder

· Support to a carer who is feeling isolated

The Irish Chaplaincy is a leading social action charity, rooted in faith, providing high quality services and support to excluded, vulnerable and isolated Irish people in England and Wales. As we reach out, we hope we're contributing to a fairer, more just society, one person at a time. The Irish Chaplaincy is the oldest Irish Catholic welfare charity in Britain and our aim remains to galvanise the whole Irish community to work together to improve the lives of those most vulnerable of Irish emigrants and ensure that no member of our community is forgotten.

Prisoners: A prison visiting, information and advocacy service for Irish prisoners in Britain and their families.

Travellers: Research, advocacy and education to improve the situation of Travellers within the criminal justice system.

Seniors: Pastoral outreach and befriending to alleviate the social exclusion and loneliness of older Irish people, and to offer a knowledgeable, compassionate and comforting presence for end-of-life issues and funeral arrangements.

About StreetVet

StreetVet is a growing national charity, committed to providing free vet care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and to keep pets and owners together to maintain their unbreakable bond.  StreetVet relies on its team of over 500 vet and nurse volunteers in twenty three locations around the UK to deliver free medical treatment, funded by grants, partnerships, corporate and individual donors.  Since its inception in 2016 the charity has treated more than 2400 pets, and has won numerous awards.

Role Description

StreetVet are looking for a volunteer Finance Assistant to work with the CEO, Operations Manager and Head of Fundraising to help monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the CEO at regular intervals on its state of financial health, in line with best practice, and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements.

You will single handedly help support StreetVet’s patients and their owners by strengthening StreetVet’s finance and governance. 

What can you expect to be doing? 

· Preparing budgets.

· Keeping accurate financial records.

· Reporting financial records via Xero accounting software.

· Review and approve payments (including payroll).

· Being part of a team which ensures there are sufficient funds to meet expenditure.

· Updating and advising others on income received, expenditure and available funds.

· Managing and monitoring donations made to the group.

· Following financial procedures e.g. Gift Aid returns and VAT claims.

Responsibilities and duties:

· Overseeing and supporting the CEO with budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements for the Board of Trustees, and making sure that they understand what the accounts are saying.

· Leading StreetVet to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.

· Supporting the CEO with the production of StreetVet’s Annual Report and Accounts.

· Oversee the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies.

· Lead on the Charities duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.

· Liaising with the CEO and Operations Manager on the day-to-day financial activities of the charity.

· Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity.

· Monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the CEO on its state of financial health, in line with best practice, and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements.

· Overseeing the implementation of and monitoring specific financial controls and adherence to systems.

· Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, and supporting the CEO with presenting an annual budget to the Board.

· Set up the StreetVet Finance committee, ensuring effective and inclusive meetings, facilitating discussions to which everyone can contribute and ensuring well founded, considered decision making. 

· Oversee and scrutinise budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements and provide advice on these and the financial implications of the charity’s strategy and plans to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team. 

· In partnership with the CEO ensure sound financial management of StreetVet - that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly invested and economically spent; and that we have sound reserves and other finance and fundraising policies. 

· Overseeing the charity’s financial risk‐management process.

· Liaise with the external auditors or independent examiner on specific issues such as the auditor’s or examiner’s management letter and the related board representations.

Skills/qualifications required

· Experience or knowledge of accounting, book keeping and/or good numeracy skills.

· The ability to collect and present information clearly and logically.

· A professional accountancy qualification (ICAEW or equivalent).

· Some understanding of charity finance and the fundraising landscape. 

· Sound independent judgement, an ability to analyse information and communicate this in clear accessible ways to those without financial backgrounds. 

· Good communication and leadership skills.

· A willingness to speak their mind and engage in open debate while working effectively as part of a team.

· To be honest and objective in their scrutiny of the organisation, seeking to ensure that the quality of service to clients remains paramount at all times.

· Commitment to the vision, mission and values of StreetVet.

· Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort to meet the responsibilities of the post. 

· Preferably experience of using Xero software.

Time Commitment 

Streetvet employs a CEO and Operations Manager who are responsible for day to day financial management of the charity.  The Finance Assistant’s involvement will play a key support role overseeing the financial affairs of the organisation, supported by the CEO and Operations Manager. This strengthens the Charity’s efficiency and strengthens their ability to create lasting impact on the communities we support. We love you to be able to give us 2-4 hours a week. More hours may be required at certain times, such as towards the end of the financial year.

Our Trustees are volunteer board members who play a vital role in making sure that EIDA achieves its mission.  As a group, they:

• Oversee the overall management and administration of the charity.
• Ensure that EIDA has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
• Provide support and challenge to the executive team, enabling EIDA to grow and thrive.

We are seeking up to four new Trustees to join the existing group of eight. 

EIDA has a UK-wide remit with a membership made up of employers, and we want to reflect that across our Trustees.

Trustee duties

Trustees are the people who lead our charity and decide how it is run.  We envisage the trustee duties broadly as:

• Support and provide advice on EIDA’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee EIDA’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve EIDA’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to EIDA’s CEO.
• Keep abreast of changes in EIDA’s operating environment.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect EIDA’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.
• Participate in periodic appraisals of the performance of the Board of Trustees, collectively and individually.
• Represent EIDA at external functions, meetings and events.

Terms of appointment

Position: Trustee

Location: This is a hybrid role, with occasional travel required to Board and network meetings held in central London

Terms: A maximum fixed term appointment of one three-year term followed by a further three-year term

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment: EIDA’s Board of Trustees meets 4-5 times a year within the working hours of 10-5pm.  Currently meetings are held in London and remotely (Zoom).

We are seeking a Non-Executive Board Member to Join our Board of Trustees. The position is voluntary.

The leisure Trust was established in 1957 as a Charitable Company Limited by
Guarantee. The Trust currently operates Harlow Leisurezone which is a large
state-of-the-art Community wet and dry leisure centre, with annual attendances in excess of 1.5 million. The organisation’s mission is “To provide a high quality sport and
leisure experience that is sustainable and responsive to the needs of the community“. Our facilities are very popular within the local community and this trend continues and is reflected in our high attendance levels to date.

 The Trustee Board consists of 12 non-executive Board members. Due to retirement the Board is seeking to recruit a new trustee to fill our current vacancy. As a Board member, you will have the opportunity to take part in the Trust’s financial and strategic planning designed to drive the organisation forward, and the development of the future policy and strategy of an organisation which makes a difference in the local community, while at the same time developing your own skills working as part of a successful team.

Responsibilities:

• Updating the events calendar

• Planning events in advance - particularly face-to-face events

• Promoting events through email

• Assisting with the monthly newsletter, including the latest events and liaising with IT to get it sent out

• Creating graphics on social media for events and partnerships with other organisations

• Liaising with the social media team, ensuring that events are promoted on Twitter, TikTok and Instagram

• Thinking up new event ideas

• Working to ensure the smooth running of the monthly book club

• Identifying new organisations and individuals who are queer Muslims and allies to collaborate with

• Contacting organisations and venues

• Working with others in the team to arrange in-person events

• Sending thank-you emails after all events

• Updating contact/partner database

Experience/skills required:

• Working in a team but also independently, using initiative

• Organisation and time management skills

• Ability to use OutSavvy, Google Suite (including Google Calendar and Google Meet), HootSuite and Discord (or willingness to learn)

• Familiarity with social media platforms (or willingness to learn)

• Teamwork and collaboration with other individuals and organisations

• Strong communication

Position Overview: 

SEED Madagascar is expanding its Board of Trustees and wishes to appoint a Fundraising Trustee to bring expertise in supporting its work in southeast Madagascar. 

SEED works in partnership with communities, integrating high quality community health, WASH, rural livelihoods, schools and conservation programmes to support long term, sustainable change. In addition, we add to International best practice through research and publication across all our programmatic areas. 

SEED is a growing Charity, and the new Trustee will join an established Board in playing an important role in SEED’s continued development. They will bring experience of working at a senior level in the field of fundraising and will ideally have worked on a charity board. We are looking for a passion for international development, along with strong people skills and an understanding of strategic planning.
