A bit about this role

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. The purpose of this role is to support the organisation with communications and administration at a local level. You’ll play an active part in the branch committee and support the branch with record keeping and planning, thus enabling more cats to be helped.

Swan Lifeline is the oldest registered charity devoted entirely to the care of sick and injured swans in the Thames Valley and surrounding areas, and has cared for over 30,000 sick and injured swans. Key Responsibilities

1. General Administrative Support: 

· Taking rescue calls and dispatching rescuers

What can you expect to be doing?

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the Branch Coordinator, Cat Welfare team, Branch Development Manager and Vet team to ensure that CP cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied in branch
• Support fosterers to follow Cats Protection cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified Cats Protection systems
• Attending relevant Cats Protection volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers using Cats Protection processes
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the Cats Protection Cat Adoption Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

VOLUNTARY GRANT FUNDRAISER

Alex TLC is a trusted and experienced organisation offering support and information for all those affected by leukodystrophy. Leukodystrophies are rare genetic disorders that mainly affect the white matter of the central nervous system, (ie the brain or spinal cord). They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, most notably children. Leukodystrophies are usually degenerative, causing symptoms such as impaired mobility, vision, speech and hearing, incontinence, inability to swallow and loss of cognitive skills. In many cases, this sadly means a reduced or limited lifespan.

Established in 2004, we are recognised by the NHS and global stakeholders as the "go to" organisation for those affected by these devastating conditions in the UK.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for leukodystrophy patients and their families. To fulfil our charitable objectives, we need to increase and sustain our grant income levels.

Could you spare a few hours a week to help us?

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working with our Trusts and Grants Fundraiser, we are looking for volunteers, preferably with experience of grant fundraising, to:

• research potential grant making trusts for relevance to our specific objectives
• send applications using existing templates
• update our systems with details of applications

This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your existing skills within a unique arena, learn about the difficulties facing those with rare disease, and give vital and tangible support to sufferers of leukodystrophy.

ABOUT YOU

This is a remote role with an ideal commitment of at least two hours per week.

Our advice line is a vital service to people experiencing domestic abuse and is available 24 hours. To help us provide the best possible service, we are looking for volunteers to help support this coverage. 

Working closely with our trained team of experts, advice line volunteers will offer callers reliable information, friendly support, and useful signposting. Volunteers would need to be available for approximately 2 hours on a regular basis each week, during either our daytime (9am to 4pm) sessions or evening (4pm – 10pm) sessions. After a period of training, this role can be carried out from home or from our Northampton refuge. 

Please note that this is a new voluntary role within NDAS and as such it will change and evolve whilst it is being developed and put into practice.   

NDAS envisages the following as a guide.

You will be:

• Committed to supporting callers facing domestic abuse situations.
• Responsive and sensitive to the disclosure of domestic abuse and mindful of issues relating to risk, confidentiality, and information sharing.
• Mindful of boundaries after disclosure; working with systems and processes internally and externally whilst understanding the limitations of the role.
• Able to sensitively gain information from callers and be able to follow the provided procedures for handling calls. 
• Able to relay information clearly and concisely whilst using our case management software.

You will NOT:

• Be responsible for DA cases or concerns.
• Be expected to be a ‘specialist’ in this field. Instead, you will be supporting the existing team and taking details from callers for our specialists to then contact.
• Be left without support – trained members of staff are on hand to always offer advice and support.

• An excellent telephone manner is essential as is high level of computer literacy.
• You must have a genuine desire to help people. 
• The ability to work calmly in a pressured situation. 
• You will need to be patient, empathetic and non-judgemental.
• You will be discreet with the information that’s shared with you.

Extensive training will be provided before you begin your volunteer role, along with ongoing, regular support. We would appreciate any time you are able to offer. If you can commit to regular hours (such as 2-3 hours per week) we would be delighted to discuss ongoing projects that might interest you. We are looking for a friendly face to help staff the Yeldall Manor reception desk for a few hours each week.

The role entails being the first point of contact for telephone callers, visitors and residents, welcoming and redirecting their queries/calls as appropriate. What will you be doing?

Main Responsibilities:

● To liaise with the chair and chief executive to plan, arrange and produce agendas and supporting papers for trustee meetings and for drafting the subsequent minutes

● To act as charity secretary and ensure that charity law, and regulatory requirements of reporting and public accountability are complied with

● Ensure that all meetings comply with the requirements of the governing document

● Arranging and administrating trustee meetings and any sub-committees in line with legal, and other regulatory requirements, and in accordance with the governing document

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

About EduSpots

EduSpots is a UK and Ghanaian registered organisation which connects, trains, and equips local volunteers to drive sustainable community-led change through education centres named ‘Spots’. Together, we are creating a movement of community-based educators. Internship opportunity 

We are looking for highly independent and self-motivated interns who are keen to gain practical skills and understanding relating to education and international development, and provide wide-ranging support to our team in Ghana and the UK, to enable us to increase our impact in a period of growth. 

The internship will be remote for 3 months starting as soon as possible, with the opportunity of extending this period. The time is 8 hours / week but this can be spread out throughout the week. Due to limited organisational time, we need interns to be committed to the work, supoprting as needs emerge, and able to work independently. We will consider interns in any geographical location. 

You will gain huge insight into education and international development through learning and being inspired on a daily basis on WhatsApp by our active network of 250 volunteers in rural Ghana who are the main focus of our work and our reason for existence. 

Key areas of delivery 

We have three areas of internship offer currently:

1. Communciations Intern - working with our Head of Communications on a wide range of communications tasks. You should have strong writing and research skills, alongside beginner design and content creation abilities. 

2. Programmes Team Intern - working with our Education & Research Manager to support tasks across the programmes team. This is likely to include design work (using basic Canva), alongside wider proof-reading and research/evaluation work, based on emerging needs. 

3. Leadership Team Intern - working with our regional coordinator team and Head of Operations to support the leadership development of our local Catalysts - tasks are likely to involve design work, marking their monthly challenges, and offering administrative and proof reading support where needed. 

For all three roles, candidates should be highly felxible and be ready to develop basic Canva design skills if you don't have these skills already. You would join all team meetings and our in-house professional development programme. 

Personal specification 

We are looking for interns with the following:

• Strong communication skills - e.g. written and verbal in English 

• Strong IT skills - e.g. ability to use Microsoft Office, Google Drive, social media etc. 

• An ability to work highly independently with minimal support, with the proactivity to reach out to team members when necessary

• A genuine interest in learning about education and international development

• A team player, willing to listen to others and respond to feedback quickly.

• An ability to use Canva design software is desirable, or else a willingness to learn.

• A genuine passion for making a tangible impact on educational opportunity through this role. 

• You will likely have a degree in an area relating to education and/or international development. 

• A desire to be part of a supportive and passioante education community, with a specifc interest in community-led change. 

• Be willing to communicate via WhatsApp and use Google drive

Responsibilities:

• Updating the events calendar

• Planning events in advance - particularly face-to-face events

• Promoting events through email

• Assisting with the monthly newsletter, including the latest events and liaising with IT to get it sent out

• Creating graphics on social media for events and partnerships with other organisations

• Liaising with the social media team, ensuring that events are promoted on Twitter, TikTok and Instagram

• Thinking up new event ideas

• Working to ensure the smooth running of the monthly book club

• Identifying new organisations and individuals who are queer Muslims and allies to collaborate with

• Contacting organisations and venues

• Working with others in the team to arrange in-person events

• Sending thank-you emails after all events

• Updating contact/partner database

Experience/skills required:

• Working in a team but also independently, using initiative

• Organisation and time management skills

• Ability to use OutSavvy, Google Suite (including Google Calendar and Google Meet), HootSuite and Discord (or willingness to learn)

• Familiarity with social media platforms (or willingness to learn)

Every community across the UK deserves equitable access to trees and the benefits they bring; from reducing air and noise pollution, alleviating stress and anxiety, making our neighbourhoods more attractive places to live and work, and boosting local ecosystems. However, while some urban areas enjoy abundant greenery and tree cover, others lack these essential natural assets. Our new Tree Equity Score tool, developed in partnership with American Forests, has been developed to help us understand where disparities in urban tree cover lie.

Now we need your help to collect data from remote urban areas across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to complete our map of tree equity across the UK. Between February – May 2024, we need your help to complete over 500 tree canopy cover assessments. Do as many or as few as you like, pick any available location from our list, and complete the assessment at a time that suits you - they only take around 1.5 hours to complete. Send us your findings by the end of this project and we will add them to our database. No specialist technical knowledge is needed and guidance is provided.
