About us

Who we are

Over 100,000 babies are born needing neonatal care in the UK each year. That’s 1 in 7 babies, or over 300 babies every day.

The time babies spend on a neonatal unit and the care they receive is vital to determining their chances of survival, long-term outcomes and quality of life.

Bliss exists to give every baby born premature or sick in the UK the best chance of survival and quality of life. We champion their right to receive the best care by supporting families, campaigning for change and supporting professionals, and enabling life-changing research.

Our vision

Bliss’ vision is that every baby born premature or sick in the UK has the best chance of survival and quality of life.

Our mission

We exist to ensure all babies in neonatal care:

  • have the best chance of survival
  • have well-supported parents playing an active role in their decision-making and care
  • are cared for in neonatal environments that best support their development
  • benefit from neonatal research that can lead to practical improvements in their care
  • receive high-quality care within a neonatal health system which is appropriately funded, structured and staffed.

Our culture and values

Trusted

We are entrusted to give voice to all babies born premature or sick. We believe that trust is earned and our actions must always be based on what is best for babies.

Supportive

We believe that developing supportive relationships is at the heart of what we do, and only by supporting others are we able to achieve our goals.

Ambitious

We always go the extra mile to deliver excellence and seek improvement in all we do.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Bliss will develop a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace and community, and to do so through employing accessible recruitment approaches, and also by valuing, celebrating and embracing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).

Our aim is to have an environment that respects and values difference, where everyone feels welcomed and confident to be completely themselves, and comfortable in driving the changes needed to better support all babies, and their families, who have a neonatal experience.

As well as having accessibility provisions at the interview and recruitment stage, we will employ recruitment practices that are inclusive and promote diversity in order to build an inclusive group of people working towards a shared vision.

This will better help us to understand the wide perspectives that more accurately reflect the neonatal community we serve, and allow us to respond to their unique needs more appropriately and effectively.
