About us
Who we are
The Lunch Club is a community charity based in Streatham, South London, working to reduce the impact of food poverty and social isolation. We provide freshly cooked, nutritious meals in a warm and welcoming environment where people can come together, build connections, and feel part of a community.
We run four lunch sessions each week across two local venues, alongside a community pantry offering surplus food and essential items for people to take home. Our service is open to anyone who needs it, including low-income households, older adults, people living alone, and those facing financial hardship.
As we grow, we are focusing on deepening the support we offer and developing activities that promote wellbeing, confidence and friendship.
Our culture and values
The Lunch Club is built on a people-centred, community-led approach. Our work is guided by a commitment to creating a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
In practice, this means being approachable, non-judgemental, and responsive to the needs of the people we support. We place a strong emphasis on inclusion and kindness, ensuring that anyone who attends feels comfortable and valued. We work collaboratively as a team of staff and volunteers, and with local partners, to deliver a consistent and effective service.
We recognise that people come to us with different experiences and challenges, and we aim to approach each interaction with understanding and consideration. As a small and growing organisation, we also remain flexible and adaptive, responding to changing needs within our community and continuously learning from feedback.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
As a small, community-based charity, we are committed to creating a fair, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone involved in our work. We welcome volunteers and staff from a wide range of backgrounds and aim to ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
We take a practical, people-centred approach, encouraging openness, listening, and mutual respect within our team. We are mindful of the diverse community we serve and aim to reflect this in our workforce. We are committed to equal opportunities in recruitment and to maintaining a culture where discrimination is not tolerated and concerns can be raised and addressed appropriately.
