About us
Who we are
The Quilt Association was originally formed in 1996 when a group of friends with an interest in patchwork and quilting decided to investigate the possibility of setting up a quilting centre in Mid Wales. The Quilt Association is run by a small team of volunteer trustees.
Our aim is to promote and educate people in patchwork and quilting in particular and textile art and craft in general. We run a series of workshops and exhibitions throughout the year, with the highlight being our annual summer exhibition, taking place from July to September. This exhibition has gained a reputation for showcasing excellent contemporary works alongside a selection of antique quilts – drawn from collections around the country. Each summer there is a programme of related workshops.
Within our building we host and care for a nationally important, growing collection of antique quilts, many of which are from the local area. The collection is made available, by appointment, for study – for personal or research purposes and features in our exhibitions. Volunteers catalogue the items in the collection, arrange conservation work, and research individual items – looking at construction techniques, fabrics, quilting and patchwork styles and the social history of the maker. Our quilts, whilst carefully looked after, are here to be seen and are featured in exhibitions, publications, books and magazines.
Our culture and values
We are a welcoming community of crafters brought together by a shared love of quilting, creativity, and connection. We value slow stitching, learning and stories stitched into every quilt. We believe quilting is more than a skill — it is a way to preserve tradition, inspire creativity, and support one another across generations.
We foster an environment where every member feels respected, encouraged, and included, whether they are beginners discovering their first stitches or experienced quilters sharing years of expertise. Through collaboration, generosity, and creativity, we create a space where ideas, techniques, and friendships can grow.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We are committed to ensuring that our work is accessible and inclusive. We value diversity and aim to reflect a wide range of perspectives in our activities and collection. We are actively seeking to broaden the diversity of our Board and encourage applications from individuals currently underrepresented in the arts and heritage sector. We are particularly interested in hearing from young people and those of working age.
