About us

Who we are

Kaleidoscope is a grassroots organisation founded in November 2023. We use the principles of youth work and psychosocial support to address a critical lack in specialised provision for displaced unaccompanied teenagers at the French - British border.

We work across day centres, safehouses and informal living sites to facilitate community activities and safe, youth-focussed spaces for teenagers aged 12 to 18. Our sessions promote psychological and social wellbeing and mitigate some of the vast trauma young people have experienced at the France-UK border and beyond

Our culture and values

Our vision - For a societal model in which the rights of every displaced child and teenager are met, including protection from trafficking, access to safe routes and family reunification, as well as holistic and social spaces to promote wellbeing and community.

Our core values -

Solidarity - Standing for displaced people’s rights and advocating for young people.

Youth Led - Listening and providing young people a platform for feedback & encouraging involvement with the opportunities to lead.

Creative growth mindset - Looking forward to how we can progress by developing new ideas.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Diversity and Inclusion

We are an actively anti-racist organisation and we do not condone saviour complexes. We encourage applications from people with lived experience of displacement, people of the global majority and people who speak relevant languages. For any questions regarding this, please email: [email protected].

Mental health disclaimer

The context we work in can be difficult for many reasons. The effects of vicarious trauma, burnout and compassion fatigue are common when working directly on the ground. Can exist but look different for those in remote roles. Whilst we have welfare provisions available for supporting each other and encouraging self care, we ask that all applicants reflect on whether or not they are currently in a position to navigate the challenges of this context and commit to volunteering with us, or if they should revisit volunteering with us at another point in the future.
