SCM is looking for a recent graduate to spend a year working with us to help us to continue to build on the work of our successful Faith in Action project. 

Run in partnership with Project Bonhoeffer, a small charitable trust, the project began in 2012 with a vision that Christian students in Britain would have a greater awareness and understanding of Bonhoeffer’s radical approach to faith and discipleship, and its implications for Christian living in the modern world. 

The project has helped to run over a dozen campaigns from Food Poverty to Peace, and had an immeasurable impact on thousands of students through blogs, resources, and relationships. All of this is bringing to light many ‘Bonhoeffers’ of today negotiating the implications on Christian living in the world.

In 2021, we began developing the Faith in Action project as a graduate scheme, employing two graduates a year to work on the project; one to lead on theology bringing a depth of learning and theological refection, and the other to be a campaigns lead, taking us always back out into the world to make a difference. Now moving forward as a combined theology and community organising role, the Faith in Action Project Worker will equip our members, and students beyond SCM, to become theologians and campaigners, putting their faith into action to change the world.

We are looking for a passionate graduate to join the project for the 2026-27 academic year.

In this role, you will be a theologian to make other theologians, and will provide the framework for students to be able to reflect theologically on their life and modern Christian living. You will be responsible for growing the breadth of SCM’s Faith in Action resources, and discovering new ways of connecting with the current membership via the trends of social media or engaging in face-to-face reflections. An activist to make other activists, you will coordinate social action for SCM, engaging the membership in social justice projects that maximise our impact in society and the world.

You will work to build relationships between SCM communities and members to equip students with the skills they need to become faith-filled agents of social and political change and lead them in theological reflection to discern their involvement in local and national campaigns. You will also work to develop relationships with other Christian social justice and campaigning organisations to create opportunities for students to put their faith into action. In all of this, you will be supported by our small but perfectly-formed team, who will share your values and fully understand your aims in this project.

The role will require some travel within Britain, as well as semi-regular visits to the office in Birmingham, which may also include an overnight stay. All reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation will be reimbursed. Some evening and weekend work may be required for which time off in lieu will be given.

Ascension Community Trust (ACT) is a much-loved community-based charity in Custom House, Newham.  We deliver a range of projects including Newham District Foodbank (a Trussell Trust foodbank), welfare benefits advice, ESOL classes, work with adults with learning difficulties, as well as work with children, young people and their families.

• Dashboard Creation: Building simple, visual reports that help managers understand at a glance how their department is performing

Person Specification

Essential:

• Recent graduate or equivalent experience in a role requiring logical thinking or data handling
• Analytical Mindset: You enjoy spotting patterns and trends in information 
• Naturally Curious: You’re the kind of person who asks "Why do we do it this way?" and "Could we do it better?" 
• Team Player: You are happy to roll up your sleeves and help a team rethink their working practices.
• Communication Skills: You can present your findings in a way that is visual, easy to digest, and actionable. You can also grasp and explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues without using jargon
• A People Person: You are personable, friendly and good at building healthy working relationships with people across the organisation
• Tech-Comfortable: You absolutely don’t need to be a coder, but you should be a confident user of standard MS Office tools (especially Excel) and be prepared to work within a complex integrated data environment, engaging with systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Sage 200 & WooCommerce
• Values Driven: You are excited about using your skills to support families across the UK

 Desirable:

• Experience in a third sector/ charity  environment
• Familiarity with CRM systems
• Understanding of analysis and reporting of KPI metrics
• Experience in delivering training or "how-to" guidance

Holiday entitlement is five weeks per annum

We are looking for a proactive, organised and detail-focused Direct Marketing Administrator to play an important role in delivering targeted campaigns that connect the right people with the right support at the right time.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at an earlier stage in their marketing or administration career who enjoys working with data, systems and people. In this role, you will provide day-to-day support for our internal direct marketing activity, work closely with colleagues across the marketing team, and help shape well-targeted email, postal and telephone campaigns that supports family life across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with colleagues to prepare and segment data for targeted email, postal and telephone campaigns for a range of audiences and stakeholders
• Build positive working relationships with external suppliers to help deliver effective, timely and cost-conscious marketing activity
• Monitor campaign delivery and flag any issues quickly to the Marketing and Website Manager so that plans stay on track
• Support and encourage the internal telemarketing team in their day-to-day work, helping them stay organised and effective during busy live tour event seasons
• Help ensure requests for marketing materials generated through telemarketing campaigns are fulfilled promptly and accurately for live tour events

The Property Manager will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the management of a diverse property portfolio comprising of approximately 150 churches and 80 manses (houses) across the district.  The role provides professional property advice and guidance to circuits, helping to ensure that buildings are effectively maintained, developed and managed to support the mission of the church.

This hybrid role offers flexible working arrangements over 3-4 days per week, with the majority of time home-based and one day per week spent in the office.

Key responsibilities include advising on property sales and acquisitions, overseeing building improvement projects, coordinating repairs and maintenance programmes, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.  The postholder will work closely with Circuits, trustees, contractors and other stakeholders to safeguard and enhance the District's property assets while delivering practical, cost-effective solutions.
