Job Purpose

To ensure the smooth functioning of the central diocesan office in particular by leading on governance in the Diocesan Board of Finance, co-ordinating activities and managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the Diocesan Secretary’s role as Company Secretary. 

 This will involve a range of responsibilities including:

•  Leading on all elements of governance and charity law compliance 
•  Leading the Health and Safety and facilities management in the Diocesan Offices, including the line management of staff.
•  Co-ordinating, preparing planning and follow up for a range of meetings associated with the governance of the diocese. This includes drafting agendas, preparing papers, taking minutes of meetings and following up the actions
•  Supporting the Diocesan Secretary in   all other aspects of  synodical and committee management, including overseeing elections and the electoral process for Diocesan Synod and Deanery Synods
• Acting as a point of contact and expertise for Parishes, Deanery Secretaries and  Deanery Lay Chairs including:

The Person

You should have significant experience in a governance or secretariat role, preferably in a charity and ideally in the Church of England.  Proven ability to work closely with senior leaders, ideally at CEO or Board level is essential, as is the experience of leading a small team to deliver well under pressure.  You should have a strong understanding of the charity sector and ideally of Church of England governance

As a key contact for people in the Diocese, you should have outstanding communication skills: written, verbal, and interpersonal, combined with strong organisational and project management skills.  You will need to be comfortable switching between high level strategy and hands on delivery, with the ability to influence without authority and navigate sensitive issues with discretion. The role is challenging and involves some evening and weekend working for which time off in lieu is given.

Key aspects of the role include:
- Supporting the Bishop in his diocesan, civic and national responsibilities.
- Assisting the Bishop with administrative, pastoral and practical tasks across the Diocese.
- Analysing, reflecting upon and briefing the Bishop on the theological, policy and
procedural implications of a wide range of issues facing the Church and wider society.
- Managing specific issues and projects on behalf of the Bishop.
- Supporting the Bishop in his statutory roles and obligations.
- Contributing to the overall vision and strategy of the diocese by participating in Bishop's
Staff meetings and the Bishop's Strategy Group, serving as a trusted advisor to the
Bishop and other senior staff.
- Leading the Bishop's Office Team, overseeing the overall operational plan for the office
and line managing the Bishop's Administrator and Hospitality Co-ordinator (one role).

The Chaplain will be a key member of the Bishop's Personal Staff which includes the Bishop's PA, the Bishop's Administrator and Hospitality Co-ordinator, the Palace Gardener and a part-time Driver. The Bishop's Office is located in the Gatehouse to the Bishop's Palace in central Exeter. The Bishop's Administrator and Hospitality Co-ordinator provides administrative support to the Chaplain.

The role demands a time commitment comparable to that if a parish priest. Generally, the Bishop's Chaplain will be expected to participate in morning and evening worship and maintain regular office hours from 9.00am to 5.00pm with a break for lunch. Some evening commitments may be required. The designated rest day is usually Saturday, though there may be occasional Saturday duties, in which case an alternative day off can be arranged. It is crucial that the Bishop's Chaplain is typically available when the Bishop is in the office, given the demands on the Bishop's diary.

Housing will be provided at no cost including exemptions from rent, council tax and water rates, located a short distance from the Bishop's Office. The Bishop's Chaplain will occupy this accommodation under a licence from its owners, the Diocesan Board of Finance. Additionally, removal expenses will be covered, along with a resettlement grant currently set at £2867. Permission may be granted to a Chaplain to live in his or her own property. However, if this is the preferred option, no housing allowance is available.

The Role

A highly valued role in the Secretariat Team of the Oxford Diocesan Board of Finance (ODBF) has become available due to the portfolio growth of the existing postholder.

This is an important role which combines high quality General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) advice and collegiate support, policy and practice development and hands-on case management, such as undertaking Subject Access Requests (SARs).

You will directly support ODBF staff, including training and response to queries and proactive advice and support to area teams (bishops, archdeacons and their teams) and parishes. Although there is no direct line management responsibility, the role requires working well in a team, supporting others with confidence in your personal decision-making. CAFOD works with the Catholic community in England and Wales to tackle poverty and injustice.

As a Community Participation Coordinator (Education Focus), you’ll grow engagement across Catholic schools, parishes and communities in the Birmingham and Portsmouth dioceses. You’ll inspire people to give, act and pray, while recruiting and supporting volunteers and building strong relationships with clergy, school leaders and diocesan partners.

Working within CAFOD’s national Education Team, you’ll collaborate locally to increase school participation and strengthen volunteer networks. This role is primarily school-focused, with occasional parish engagement.

This is a home-based role that requires regular travel across the dioceses and occasional visits to CAFOD’s London office. Flexibility is key, with some evening or weekend work and occasional transport of resources (expenses and time off in lieu provided).

Role Responsibilities

Delivering participation plans

• Share accountability for delivery of annual participation plans for the region (a group of dioceses) with a primary focus on one diocese or area, and share in the delivery of fundraising, education, campaigns and media objectives and targets, as delineated by the participation plan for the region. This role will have a focus on schools’ engagement.
• Contribute to the development of activities to achieve objectives in support of and appropriate for local contexts. Through increased numbers and activity of school volunteers, more Catholic schools will be visited by a CAFOD volunteer.
• Maintain regular outreach, promotion and relationship-building with volunteers and key leaders in parish and school communities and Catholic church and education networks.

Managing volunteers

• Be the lead volunteer manager for an identified portfolio of volunteer roles locally and ensure effective coordination and communication.
• Match the offers, skills, experiences and expectations of volunteers with opportunities and needs in relation to CAFOD’s plans for schools.
• Organise and promote volunteer meetings and training opportunities online/offline to either to deliver themselves or by another member of the Education Section.

Managing relationships and promotion

• Represent CAFOD in the diocese and ensure CAFOD retains a diverse range of relationships including with priests, school staff, academy trusts and others within a diocese. 
• Ensure CAFOD is promoted via various diocesan communication channels, working with diocesan communications officers and school communities.

II. Experience of managing multiple relationships with volunteers and a wide variety of volunteers, including recruitment and retention, and managing volunteer performance.

The Foundation for Jewish Heritage is the UK’s only dedicated organisation focused on preserving and activating Jewish built heritage as a catalyst for education, culture, memory and community renewal.

Over the past decade, the Foundation has grown from a small specialist charity into a recognised leader in the field of Jewish built heritage. It has secured major support for nationally significant projects, including a £6 million flagship heritage project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Welsh Government, Garfield Weston, Wolfson and Rothschild.

The Foundation is now entering an important new phase. Alongside major project delivery, it is taking on a wider UK role, supporting communities and historic synagogues across the country, including places such as Liverpool, Bradford, Leicester, Brighton and Merthyr Tydfil. It is also developing European partnerships, particularly in countries such as Poland and Germany, and strengthening relationships with North American and Canadian supporters.

The Foundation’s work is about more than saving buildings. Historic synagogues and heritage sites are gateways into the stories of Jewish life, identity, migration, civic contribution and cultural memory. They offer a powerful way of engaging Jewish and wider audiences with the richness and complexity of Jewish history in Britain and across Europe.

The Foundation has reached a point where its fundraising structure needs to match the scale of its ambition.

Until now, much of the fundraising has been led directly by the Chief Executive, supported by trustees, consultants and external bid writers. This has delivered significant success, particularly around major heritage projects and institutional funders. However, the organisation now needs a more structured, proactive and relationship-led fundraising function.

The Head of Development will work closely with the Chief Executive, trustees and a new Fundraising Committee to broaden the donor base, strengthen major relationships, develop new income streams, and ensure that the Foundation is no longer dependent on a small number of individuals or on the Chief Executive holding most fundraising relationships personally.

This is not simply a fundraising support post. It is a strategic development role for someone who can combine relationship building, major donor fundraising, compelling written communication, careful stewardship and long-term pipeline management.

The successful candidate will help turn the Foundation’s growing profile into sustained philanthropic support.

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is seeking an experienced and detail-focused Payroll, Pension and Treasury Manager to lead our payroll, pension and treasury operations, ensuring strong financial stewardship, compliance and effective management of funds that support our global mission.

The Role

As the Payroll, Pension and Treasury Manager, you will lead our payroll, pension and treasury functions across the UK and overseas operations.

You will manage the preparation and processing of monthly payroll and pension activities for UK and overseas staff, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and supporting staff with payroll, pension and tax-related queries.

Alongside maintaining payroll systems and pension submissions, you will also provide reporting, audit support and process improvements to maximise efficiency and minimise risk.

You will also oversee banking and treasury operations, managing domestic and foreign bank accounts, monitoring transactions and ensuring funds are invested appropriately in line with charity policies.

Additionally, you will:

- Support staff with payroll, pension, tax and National Insurance queries
- Maintain payroll software, databases and banking systems
- Ensure liquid funds are available to meet planned expenditure
- Research investment opportunities and support treasury decision-making
- Provide payroll reporting and analysis to HR and senior leadership teams
- Support year-end audit activity and finance projects

About You

To join us as our Payroll, Pension and Treasury Manager, you will need:

- Proven experience in a management role, including strategic planning, and people and financial management
- Experience of setting and controlling budgets
- Proven experience of running a payroll function
- Proven experience of running a pension function
- A degree or equivalent qualification
- A finance qualification

International Mission to Jewish People (IMJP) is a nearly 200-year-old mission agency with a clear and enduring calling: to share the Good News of Jesus the Messiah with Jewish people all over the world. As we enter an exciting new season of growth, we are looking for a Supporter Data & Engagement Manager to sit at the heart of our fundraising function.

The Role

This is a dual-focus position, roughly equal parts data and relationship. You will be the organisation's primary expert on Charity CRM - maintaining data quality, building reports and dashboards, and ensuring the whole team has the insight it needs to make good decisions. 

At the same time, you will play a hands-on role in supporter stewardship: developing personalised donor journeys, managing engagement events, and making sure every supporter feels valued and connected to the work their giving makes possible.

You will bring:

• Substantial experience working with a CRM system (Charity CRM preferred), including data management, querying, and segmentation
• Proven ability to build reports and dashboards and translate data insight clearly for non-technical audiences
• Demonstrable experience in supporter engagement, stewardship, or donor relationship management
• Strong understanding of data quality principles, UK GDPR, and data protection best practice
• Experience planning and delivering supporter or stakeholder events
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – warm, proactive, and genuinely relational

Experience of CRM migration projects, Power BI, Gift Aid administration, or working within a charity or membership organisation would be a real advantage.
