My client is a large London-based charity which offers hybrid working.
Your new role
My role is a Financial Accountant on a fixed-term contract basis for 12 months. Duties will include:
- Take primary responsibility for a number of subsidiary entities, ensuring the preparation of financial statements and liaising with the external auditors.- Assisting with preparation of financial statements and undertaking relevant analysis.
- Reviewing the year-end trial balances and analysing key variances with previous years to identify potential omissions or misstatements.
- Developing and managing a regular schedule of review and reconciliation of all GL accounts, ensuring all accounts are reconciled and cleared appropriately.
- Ensuring all key GL accounts are reviewed each month, including suspense, control and clearing accounts to identify discrepancies, investigating and making corrections as required.
- Managing the month-end timetable, including sending out regular communications, following up on outstanding actions to ensure deadlines are met.
- Ensuring all payments are processed using the most appropriate payment method, considering value and payment terms, ensuring appropriate authorisation and sufficient funds are available.
- Ensuring bank accounts and bank mandates are kept up-to-date, including opening of new bank accounts and any alterations to arrangements with existing accounts.
- Ensuring regular (at least monthly) bank reconciliations are prepared and overseeing the monitoring of daily bank balances.
- Ensuring the production of daily/weekly/monthly cash monitoring and forecasting spreadsheets, working with the Financial Accountants to ensure the maintenance of appropriate liquidity whilst optimising funds available for investment.
What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed, you will need previous experience of financial accounting. If you were studying for a professional qualification, that would be an advantage. Strong systems skills, including Excel, are also required.

Head of FP&A | Permanent | £63,000 - £67,000 | London | Hybrid

For a well-known charity in central London, we're recruiting a permanent FP&A Lead to join a high-performing finance team. This role will design and deliver accurate and timely financial information, supporting the decision-making process for stakeholders. The role will manage a Finance Business Partner and Systems Analyst and will lead on ensuring the financial systems and processes and fit for purpose, whilst collaborating across the organisation to build financial capacity. Finally, the FP&A Lead will integrate financial planning and drive improvements to enhance decision-making and long-term sustainability.

Main Duties:

• Lead annual budgeting and reforecasting - working with department to set KPIs and provide decision-making analysis
• Build the framework for collecting and communicating the organisational budget and forecast
• Develop and deliver regular financial MI to stakeholders
• Develop first-class financial analysis across income and expenditure, project and fund accounting, and cashflow
• Champion continual improvement in financial management across the organisation
• Lead the production of key financial reporting and analysis
• Lead engagement with all stakeholders, needing FP&A meets needs and good practice
• Manage restricted fund accounting, ensuring financial reporting enables robust grant applications and reporting
• Collaborate with senior leadership to provide insight, planning and analysis for major programmes

Person Specification:

• Qualified CCAB or substantial experience

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Accountant: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with significant post-qualification experience in industry.
• Sector Expertise: Proven experience in a finance management position within the Charity sector, including the management of restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Leadership Track Record: Experience leading multi-function teams with a focus on capability building and performance management.
• Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of internal controls, technical accounting, and large-scale budgeting processes.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to present decision-ready papers to Board committees.
• Occupational Requirement: Given the leadership nature of this role and its responsibility for the spiritual nurturing of staff, there is an occupational requirement for the post holder to have an active Christian faith.

Desired Skills:

• Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central, Power BI, SAP Concur, Jedox, and Blackline.

Salary: Circa £70,000 per annum

We are looking for an experienced, qualified accountant to lead the DEC’s finance function, ensuring accurate day-to-day accounting and robust financial controls, and delivering high-quality management and statutory reporting. The Head of Finance oversees budgeting and forecasting across the Secretariat, leads the annual audit and year-end accounts production, and provides clear financial insight to budget-holders and senior stakeholders.
