About us
Who we are
Dacorum Heritage is the Accredited Museum for the borough of Dacorum. Rather than operating as a traditional museum with public galleries, we care for our collections in a dedicated Museum Store in Berkhamsted, welcoming researchers, groups and visitors by appointment.
Based in a converted fire station since 1993, Dacorum Heritage looks after more than 132,000 catalogued artefacts relating to the history of the borough. These collections include material owned by Dacorum Heritage, Dacorum Borough Council and seven local history organisations.
The collections are rich and varied, ranging from paintings, photographs, documents, archaeology and textiles to objects that tell the stories of local people, places and communities. Spanning around 6,000 years, from the Neolithic period to the present day, they offer a remarkable insight into the long history and culture of Dacorum.
Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd. is both a Charitable Trust, Charity Number 1026161, and a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is an Accredited Museum, Museum No. 1594, with full accreditation status.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Dacorum Heritage is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative of all sections of society, and for each employee and volunteer to feel respected and able to give their best. Dacorum Heritage, in providing services and facilities, is also committed against unlawful discrimination of visitors or the public.
We are happy to talk with candidates about access needs and any reasonable adjustments that may help them take part in the recruitment process or carry out the role.
Please note that our museum store is based in a converted historic fire station. The building has stepped access to the store and an internal staircase, and unfortunately there is currently no lift.
There is some car parking available at the museum, and the store is around a 10-minute walk from Berkhamsted Station, which has direct train services from London Euston.
