About us
Who we are
Small Steps is a Richmond-based charity supporting young disabled children and their families, through the principles of Conductive Education. We provide free, weekly parent-and-child group sessions led by a specialist team of conductors, teachers and physiotherapists, helping children develop physical, communication, social and learning skills while empowering parents to support their child's progress. Just as importantly, we support parents on their own journey, creating a welcoming community where families can share experiences, build relationships and access vital emotional support from others who understand. Our focus is always on what children can achieve, creating a positive, fun and encouraging environment where every small step is celebrated. As a charity that receives no statutory funding, we rely entirely on grants, donations and fundraising, and every member of our team plays an important role in helping us deliver exceptional support and reach more families who can benefit from our services.
Our culture and values
At Small Steps, we are passionate about making a lasting difference to the lives of children with disabilities and their families. Everything we do is guided by our values of Positivity, Compassion, Integrity, Excellence and being Family Focused, helping children reach their potential and celebrating every achievement along the way. We work in partnership with families, recognising their vital role in a child's development and providing support that is tailored to their individual needs. We are proud to foster an inclusive, supportive and collaborative culture where our team is united by a shared commitment to helping children and families thrive, while creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported and able to grow.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At Small Steps, we want everyone to feel welcome, valued and able to be themselves. We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity and creating an inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and fairness. We celebrate diversity and believe that different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives make our team stronger and enrich the support we provide to children and families. We foster a culture of kindness, understanding and mutual respect, where everyone feels heard, supported and able to thrive. We do not tolerate discrimination, bullying or harassment, and are committed to ensuring that every colleague has the opportunity to learn, develop and succeed. Through open communication, ongoing learning and a genuine commitment to inclusion, we strive to create a workplace where people feel they belong, can reach their full potential and are inspired to make a positive difference every day.
