About us

Who we are

The Bromley Trust is an independent grant-making Trust. We fund specialist charities that are helping to bring about positive social change through their work with marginalised people in the justice system or people who need human rights protection in the UK. We also support and connect our grantees with those who can help them achieve their aims and our collective vision of a society that treats people humanely and respects their human rights and dignity.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

The Bromley Trust has a vision of a society that treats people humanely and respects their human rights and dignity. This vision will only be achieved by actively opposing inequality, valuing diversity and promoting inclusion.

We fund specialist charities that are helping to bring about positive social change through their work with marginalised people in the justice system or people who need human rights protection in the UK, specifically focussing on prisons and the asylum system. These systems disproportionately affect people of colour and entrench class and economic inequality, and can be insensitive to the needs of women and people from minoritised groups. We will use our resources and voice to promote positive change and to empower those who are marginalised.

We will oppose inequality and promote inclusion by:

  • funding specialist charities whose work makes a positive contribution to opposing inequality, supporting people who are marginalised and challenging systemic inequality
  • supporting charities that empower those they work with, providing them with resources and amplifying their voice
  • tackling specific inequalities by collaborating with other organisations involved in targeted campaigns and programmes of work
  • promoting examples of good practice that have a positive impact.

Through this work we seek to challenge and reduce inequality and empower those who are marginalised.

As an employer and charitable organisation, the Bromley Trust has a diversity, equity and inclusion committee that leads on our strategy and promotes effective practice internally. As a small organisation, it will not be possible to be comprehensively representative in our staff and trustee team, so our focus will be on ensuring that we have structures that enable us to listen to and engage with those we work with.

We will produce an internal DEI plan and will be transparent by including feedback on progress and priorities in our Annual Report. We will review this statement and our action plan on an annual basis to ensure that it is a living document which reflects our values and commitment.
